Finish this simple summer salad with a sweet honey vinaigrette. Every bite bursts in your mouth with watermelon, peaches, and feta cheese. It really is summer in a salad!

To me, this salad screams summertime. The only time of year to make it is now through August, when the watermelon is sweet, and the peaches are ripe and plentiful!

When I was younger, my mom would host so many summer parties, and you all, her parties were not small. She’d host birthdays, Father’s Days, late-night Fourth of July parties, and every other event in between. She was a PRO, and with most of her parties reaching 30+ people on average, she knew how to serve a crowd.

Her cheesy potatoes were always a staple. In the summer, there was grilled chicken, burgers, and ribs, and then, of course, her Special K-Bars (this was the second recipe I ever posted on the site!). No summer party was ever finished until Mom served her K-bars; they are legendary.

The only other dish that always made an appearance at summer parties was fruit salad. If mom was making the fruit salad, it was mostly just a bunch of cubes, watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew.

But more times than not, my Mom was smart, and usually let my Nonnie bring the fruit salad. When Nonnie brought the fruit salad, it was always from Edible Arrangements and it was my favorite dish of the night. I would eat all the watermelon, cantaloupe, and strawberries, not stopping until my stomach was so full. I LOVED the watermelon, and I swear, the cute arrangement made it taste even better.

But the family party fruit salads often lacked cheese and herbs, and there was never a dressing. While I love the simplicity of a bowl of fruit, I thought we’d add some flavor to one of my favorite summer dishes. Nonnie would have LOVED this salad; I know it.

The details

Step 1: arrange the salad

Find a giant salad bowl and arrange the watermelon and peaches together. Add the feta cheese. Then, I add lots of fresh basil leaves and pistachios. I love the salty crunch the pistachios provide, which makes the fruit even more addicting.

If you wanted, you could certainly add strawberries to this as well.

Step 2: make the vinaigrette

We’re using my go-to balsamic fig, except I swapped the balsamic vinegar for champagne vinegar and added a bit of honey. It’s tangy and sweet, which I really enjoy on fruit-based salads.

Step 3: toss it

Now, take the dressing and pour it over the salad.

At this point, it’s best to serve the salad. The longer the watermelon sits, the more water it releases.

This is one of those recipes I always make because it’s fast, easy, healthy, and delicious. And it’s, of course, so pretty. That gives it major bonus points!

I’m excited for you all to make this next week for the 4th. It’s crazy that we’re halfway through the year, and the 4th is just days away!

4th of July hit! The only thing I did different was roasting the peaches on the bbq. They were not ripe enough so roasting worked!

I made this for my family over the holiday week for 12 people and this was just perfect. I used mint instead and I did not have balsamic so I used white wine vinegar and it was perfect Literally, kids and adults went in for seconds… and easy!!

I just made this today. The only change I made was that I bought a 6 oz container of Mediterranean herbed feta. I was surprised the recipe called for 8oz. I used what I thought looked good on the salad. I’d guess about 3oz total. It was delicious! I will definitely make this for company.
Thank you for yet another winner, Tieghan!

Delicious, such a great mixture of flavor. Would not add the dressing until right before serving as it made it pretty juicy hours later. Was a crowd pleaser regardless!

    1. Hey Emily,
You could use white wine vinegar, that will work well for you! I hope you love this recipe, please let me know if you give it a try! xT

  9. Huge feta fan here, Tieghan! I usually buy French feta since it seems a little less salty and creamier than Greek, Bulgarian, etc. This salad looks and sounds amazing!👍🏻

    1. Hey Becky,

  10. Good Morning.

    1. Hey Leslie,
Thanks so much!! I think goat cheese would also work nicely here or even mini mozzarella balls would be great! I hope this helps! xT

Would it be possible to stop adding feta to practically everything you make? I realize that feta has been the trendy, and ubiquitous, ingredient for years now, but some of us hate feta.

    1. Why do people feel compelled to give a recipe a 1-star review because they are incapable of coming up with a substitute for one ingredient they don’t like? Move on and find another recipe instead of giving a meritless review of a recipe you didn’t even try.

    2. Hi Josee,
Thanks for sharing your feedback:) You are always welcome to use a cheese of your liking in place of feta. Have a great day! xT

Made this last night, YUM! This combo is one of my husband’s favorite and the fun twist on the dressing made it special. My only deviation from the recipe was keeping the feta separate for dietary reasons. My husband, who did eat it with the feta agreed there’s plenty of other types of cheese that could be paired beautifully with this😊

        1. Hey Amy,
Fantastic!! So glad to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, I appreciate you giving it a try and your comment! x

    3. Who doesn’t like feta? You clearly have no taste. I bet you only eat tasteless yellow cheese, which is not really cheese.

    4. 5 stars
And most of us love it. If you don’t like it, keep scrolling, you flaming narcissist. Do you really think the world revolves around you and your ignorant preferences, and everyone should stop using feta because you don’t like it? What a joke!

Feta…trendy? Its been around AT least since Homer’s the Odyssey, you nitwit.

You tr@lls REALLY need to do better. Do you realize how idiotic you sound?

      1. What made you decide to get all angry and insult people on a food blog? It’s not that serious dude.

        1. She’s big mad because the entire world likes and has been eating feta for literally hundreds of years. Yet it’s a “trend” that enrages her and drives her to madness.

Ya can’t make this stuff up. 🤣

        2. You are getting all unhinged because you don’t like feta? I guess you must be very busy lambasting every food blogger that has ever used feta in a recipe…

          Oh, wait. 😒

    5. 5 stars
      Dude, what?

News flash, Feta is not “trendy”. It’s been a staple of the Mediterranean diet for hundreds of years. Nobody cares what you think of it. Bug off.
