So about this Thai pizza… it’s not your everyday slice, but it might just be one of the best pizzas I’ve ever made. Sweet, spicy, cheesy, and peanutty — the flavors are so unexpected, yet they work perfectly together. My parents loved it so much they joked it was ‘worthy of starting a restaurant with only this on the menu.’ One bite and you’ll get it!
So about this Thai pizza… it’s one of those recipes that’s hard to put into words. It’s just really freaking good — the kind of good that surprises you with every bite.
I know peanut butter and cheese sound like an odd match, but trust me, they just work. The combo is creamy, a little salty, and totally addictive.
The flavors are all about balance — slightly sweet, slightly spicy, peanutty, and of course, a little cheesy. It’s unexpected, but so delicious.
Even the smell while it bakes is drool-worthy. Warm, nutty, savory, and a little sweet… it’s one of those “hover by the oven” kinds of recipes.
Your first bite might just shock you. The flavors are so unique and layered — it’s fresh, light, and completely different from your usual pizza night.
This one was a hit with my parents. They loved it so much they joked it was “worthy of starting a restaurant with only this on the menu.” Pretty high praise!
For the Dough: In a large bowl, combine water, yeast and honey. Mix with a spoon, then let sit until foamy, about 10 minutes. Add in 2 1/2 cups flour and olive oil stirring with a spoon until the dough comes together but is still sticky. Using your hands, form the dough into a ball and work the additional 1/2 cup flour in to the dough, kneading it on a floured surface for a few minutes. You can also do all the mixing and kneading in your stand mixer with the dough hook attachment. Rub the same bowl with olive oil then place the dough inside, turning to coat. Cover with a towel and place in a warm place to rise for about 1 1/2 hours.
To make the Pizza's: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Once the pizza dough is ready to go dived the dough in half. Place half the dough aside for another use or freeze for later. With the remaining dough roll/press into two medium size round pizzas (I like to divide my dough in half (again) and make two medium pizza's rather than one large. I find the the pizzas cook better at a smaller size.). They do not have to be perfect! Roll the dough as thin as possible or until you reach your desired thickness.
Spread the sweet asian chili sauce all over the pizza dough leaving about a half inch border for the crust. Add the mozzarella cheese.
In a large bowl, whisk together the peanut butter through the garlic. Toss the cauliflower in the peanut sauce. Using a fork remove the cauliflower and distribute evenly atop the pizzas. Reserve any remaining sauce for drizzling.
Scatter the red peppers on top and drizzle with any remaining peanut sauce. If desired sprinkle with a handful more of mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 375 degrees for 30- 35 minutes or until your desired doneness. Sprinkle with green onions and chopped peanuts.
Delicious pizza, made it last night! Found it was a bit too sweet though with the sweet chili sauce on the base and I didn’t use as much as you called for. Could you recommend a good substitute for the base of the pizza? Thanks so much
Hey Cindy,
Wonderful!! Thanks so much for trying this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! Maybe another Thai sauce that you enjoy? Have a great weekend:)
This was amazing! I used some shortcuts – pizza crust from Trader Joe’s, and store bought Peanut Sauce. I cut back on the cheese and next time will skip it entirely. I shared with my neighbors and they loved it so much we’re having it again today. Wonderful blend of flavors and textures. Thanks so much for sharing!
This recipe is most certainly not vegetarian. So many recipes clam stuff is vegetarian but then it is not, how disapointing. Fish sauce, like it’s name points out, contains fish, which is not vegetarian
Hi Opaline! Usually vegetarian is everything except for meat itself, whereas vegan is no animal products or byproducts. I would agree that this would not be vegan, but it is vegetarian…If you would like vegan recipes I have a bunch on my site! xTieghan
Vegetarian means everything but dairy and eggs. Vegan removes dairy and eggs as well. Fish sauce is NOT VEGETARIAN a simple Google search would have showed that. It’s as Vegetarian as adding beef broth.
Awesome! We just made this pizza and love it. It’s one of the best I ever had. The cauliflower adds a delightful texture. And your peanut sauce recipe is superb. What an amazing pizza. Thank you!
I was getting ready to make the Thai Pizza, which looks totally amazing, and I’m confused about the directions for the dough. It says 2TBSP divided of honey. It never says divided in what way, how much goes where or when?? Thank you.
I am confused…for the pizza instructions where does the coconut milk…soy..fish sauce…sambal..hot chili oil all go it does not mention anything in instructions they are just on the ingredient list but not told how to use.
How is this vegetarian? Also, the dishes description is lost in an unneeded narrative about a family.
Not a vegetarian recipe, there is fish (fish sauce) so it would be pescatarian not vegetarian.
When do you put salt into the pizza dough?
Hi! You add it in with the flour! Hope this helps. xT
