This simple Sheet Pan Sticky Ginger Soy Chicken and Broccoli is about to become your new go-to meal. Easy homemade, extra saucy chicken, tossed in a gingery, sweet, spicy, and extra sticky honey soy sauce. Serve with steamed rice and broccoli – cooked right alongside the chicken – for the easiest sheet pan dinner. A delicious, fun, take-out style dinner made at home – and much healthier too – that’s great any night of the week!

It doesn’t look like it, but when you read this recipe, to me, it screams retro. Retro, like a recipe your grandma would have made way back in the day. This is totally something my Nonnie would have made on repeat.
It’s EASY, which we of course love. My Nonnie was a real pro at creating delicious dinners that took very little effort on her part. She knew her time was better spent shopping with me!
Her secret was using ingredients that did double the work. She would incorporate a lot of store-bought seasoning packets and sauces to add flavor. She’d also take shortcuts whenever she could. But regardless, her dinners were always delicious, and I know she’d fully approve of this recipe.

So what is the “retro” secret ingredient here? A little bit of ketchup. It gives this sticky sauce added body, flavor, and sweetness.
I know it’s not a new concept by any means, but I don’t often use ketchup for cooking. I usually reserve it for dipping my french fries. But I’m now sold on using ketchup in sauces. Sounds odd, but wow, it’s so delicious.

This recipe is so simple and straightforward. Grab some broccoli and chicken, I love to use a mix of chicken breasts and thighs. My family prefers chicken breasts, but I think thighs always add flavor. They give just the right amount of fat to keep chicken from drying out. I find a mix is always nice!
Arrange the chicken and broccoli inside a baking dish. I use a smaller sheet pan with sides. Ideally, you want to use something a little smaller than a 9×13 inch baker. This will allow the sauce to better thicken around the chicken. A sheet pan with sides is perfect!

Now the sauce. Mix equal amounts of honey, ketchup, and tamari (or soy sauce) together. Then add tart pomegranate juice, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Mix and pour the sauce over the chicken.
Bake until the sauce thickens slightly around the pieces of chicken and broccoli.

At the end of cooking, I like to switch the oven to the broil setting and get the chicken caramelized on top. Just watch closely, the broiler can really work FAST.
I was shocked at how well the timing of everything ended up working out. Nothing fancy here, just simple cooking, but very delicious.

Serve the sauce, chicken, and broccoli over steamed rice with plenty of green onions, and if you’re into it, pomegranates too. I love using them because they add color and juiciness.

Double this recipe. It was a hit and we could have eaten double what I made. The only tweak I made to the recipe was to grate the garlic and ginger instead of slice it. Yumm…
Hey Natale,
Happy Monday! Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try, I am so glad it turned out well for you! Thanks for your comment! xT
Star Anise in photo but not found in recipe? Making tonight for dinner
Delicious easy and quick enough for week nights!
Grated the ginger and garlic and would double for leftovers !
It’s going on my do again and again list!
Hi Susan,
Happy Monday! Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try, I am so glad it turned out well for you! Thanks for your comment! xT
Hi Susan,
You do not need to use star anise in this recipe. Please let me know if you give it a try, I hope it’s delish! xx
Sorry, this was just not great. So disappointed. Served to dinner guests. No one even mentioned it while eating- and no one wanted Seconds. It was mushy- never got the sticky thick sauce that I was expecting. I should have read the comments first. The sauce was watery, followed it exactly. And I’m a serious cook . I served an asparagus tart first course- luckily that helped curb the appetites.
Just made it EXACT to the recipe – I’m also a fairly seasoned cook and it was terrible. Watery sauce and chicken WAY over cooked- generally chicken breast that is boneless cooks in 30 minutes on 350.
Hi Andrea,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try and sharing your feedback, so sorry to hear this was not enjoyed. I think just broiling longer would have helped you! xx
Loved this!
I tried cooking in the instant pot and it was a bit watery after 18 min @high pressure. Was thinking about adding a cornstarch slurry and switching to sauté mode for a bit? Any other recommendations? Thanks!!
Delicious recipe!
Only ingredient I swapped was liquid aminos for the soy sauce. Also, I chopped up frozen chicken the night before and left it in the fridge to marinate and defrost it in half the sauce. Next day cooked it on the stovetop in a large frying pan with the rest of the sauce and broccoli. Served with jasmine rice and side of green beans. Will definitely made this again!
Hey Hope,
Happy Monday! Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try, I am so glad it turned out well for you! Thanks for your comment! xT
Hey Stephanie,
Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try!! Sure, you could add a cornstarch slurry or sauté to let the sauce thicken. I hope this helps! xx
Marinated my chicken for a bit before cooking. Flavor was good. I used OJ I had in the fridge.
Hey Sarah,
Awesome!! So glad you enjoyed this recipe, thanks for making it:) xx
Delicious recipe! I made some very slight changes after reading previous comments and before making this dish. Because I only had boneless skinless chicken breasts (and they dry out faster than chicken thighs), I was sure to check the temperature of the chicken with a thermometer. Also, as others have stated, I didn’t want to use a low-sided sheet pan as it would have made my oven a mess. I used a glass Pyrex 10-inch by 8-inch pan. The recipe made so much delicious sauce, I poured half over the chicken which thoroughly coated it, and placed the remaining sauce in a small saucepan to gently heat and thicken while the chicken baked. After the chicken finished cooking, I removed the chicken to a serving bowl and poured the sauce in the baking dish into the pan with the reserved sauce on the stove to thicken it with a cornstarch slurry (about 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with a little cold water). The sauce thickened in less than a minute, and I poured it over the chicken and broccoli florets (mine were steamed in the microwave and not cooked in the oven). It was delicious! Btw, if you’re using a glass baking dish such as Pyrex, they’re not safe to use when broiling.

I made this for dinner tonight and it was amazing! My sauce was perfect. My 8 year old picky eater devoured it! Thank you so much for this easy and delicious recipe!
Hey Erika,
Happy Sunday!!☃️ Thanks a lot for making this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! xT
This was absolutely delicious! Mine didn’t thicken as much as the recipe (didn’t see the note about broiling longer until too late), but the taste was flavorful and spot on for a wonderful chicken and broccoli! I served it with your ginger rice that is a staple in our house! Will absolutely make it again! Thank you!
Hey Heather,
Happy Sunday!!☃️ Thanks a lot for making this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! xT
No need to broil this, at 450 degrees with honey and ketchup it came out well browned. Substituted baby bok choi, delicious!
Hey there,
Happy Sunday!!☃️ Thanks a lot for making this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! xT
Made this last night and the sauce was great. Problem was it over flowed in my oven so no I need to clean my oven! Broccoli was over cooked according to my husband so perhaps putting the Broccoli in half way thru will work better! I forgot to broil at the end and I’m sure that would have made it even better!
Hey Susan,
Happy Sunday!!☃️ Thanks a lot for making this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! So sorry about the spillage! xT
I made this & the sauce didn’t thicken how it was shown in the pictures. Any tips?! I still liked the flavors & would be interested in making it again!
Hey Ashtyn,
Thanks a lot for giving this recipe a try! I think just broil longer next time, that should help to thicken the sauce:) xx
The recipe was very good- but not as thick as your photo. I used skinless boneless chicken- did that make a difference? The flavor is delicious but next time I would try using a bit more honey and ketchup. Thank you for your delicious posts! I love your feed.
Hey Lauren,
Happy Sunday!!☃️ Thanks a lot for making this recipe, I love to hear that it turned out well for you! Next time, just broil for longer for a thicker sauce! xT
This came out great — I used pineapple juice because that is what I had here. Flavor was great, the sauce didn’t thicken as much as I would have liked. But definitely will be making again.
Hey Valerie,
Wonderful!!🎄 I love to hear that this recipe was a winner, thanks so much for making it and sharing your review! You can broiler longer next time for a thicker sauce! xx
Hi! I tried this recipe in the oven and the sauce turned completely watery and didn’t stick to the chicken. Any idea why?
This happened to me too. The flavor was great, just not as thick as I wanted it.
Hi Kendall,
I think you just need to broil longer next time, that should help to thicken the sauce! xx
Hey Alexa,
Ahhh so sorry to hear this!! I would try reducing the soy sauce next time and using 2 tablespoons pomegranate juice and then trying boiling longer. I hope this helps! xT
Very good, sauce thickend nicely, the only difference was I used more garlic and used brussle sprouts cut in half, topped off with toasted sesame with the scallion.Would make this again because it was family approved!!!!!
