This simple Sheet Pan Sticky Ginger Soy Chicken and Broccoli is about to become your new go-to meal. Easy homemade, extra saucy chicken, tossed in a gingery, sweet, spicy, and extra sticky honey soy sauce. Serve with steamed rice and broccoli – cooked right alongside the chicken – for the easiest sheet pan dinner. A delicious, fun, take-out style dinner made at home – and much healthier too – that’s great any night of the week!

It doesn’t look like it, but when you read this recipe, to me, it screams retro. Retro, like a recipe your grandma would have made way back in the day. This is totally something my Nonnie would have made on repeat.
It’s EASY, which we of course love. My Nonnie was a real pro at creating delicious dinners that took very little effort on her part. She knew her time was better spent shopping with me!
Her secret was using ingredients that did double the work. She would incorporate a lot of store-bought seasoning packets and sauces to add flavor. She’d also take shortcuts whenever she could. But regardless, her dinners were always delicious, and I know she’d fully approve of this recipe.

So what is the “retro” secret ingredient here? A little bit of ketchup. It gives this sticky sauce added body, flavor, and sweetness.
I know it’s not a new concept by any means, but I don’t often use ketchup for cooking. I usually reserve it for dipping my french fries. But I’m now sold on using ketchup in sauces. Sounds odd, but wow, it’s so delicious.

This recipe is so simple and straightforward. Grab some broccoli and chicken, I love to use a mix of chicken breasts and thighs. My family prefers chicken breasts, but I think thighs always add flavor. They give just the right amount of fat to keep chicken from drying out. I find a mix is always nice!
Arrange the chicken and broccoli inside a baking dish. I use a smaller sheet pan with sides. Ideally, you want to use something a little smaller than a 9×13 inch baker. This will allow the sauce to better thicken around the chicken. A sheet pan with sides is perfect!

Now the sauce. Mix equal amounts of honey, ketchup, and tamari (or soy sauce) together. Then add tart pomegranate juice, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Mix and pour the sauce over the chicken.
Bake until the sauce thickens slightly around the pieces of chicken and broccoli.

At the end of cooking, I like to switch the oven to the broil setting and get the chicken caramelized on top. Just watch closely, the broiler can really work FAST.
I was shocked at how well the timing of everything ended up working out. Nothing fancy here, just simple cooking, but very delicious.

Serve the sauce, chicken, and broccoli over steamed rice with plenty of green onions, and if you’re into it, pomegranates too. I love using them because they add color and juiciness.

Good recipe I should have read the comments and added cornstarch to the sauce. Also next time I will add the chili flakes for a little heat. Overall delicious and quick to get on the table which is so appreciated!
Hey Whitney,
Happy Friday! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed this recipe, thanks a lot for making it!
This is the second time that I have made this dish. The first time was with chicken and was good but my sauce burned. This time I tried it with pork loin since that was what I had and drizzled a bit of the sauce on the pork, broccoli, orange peppers, then after 20 minutes or so, covered the mixture with the remaining sauce. Went back in oven for 2-3 minutes. This worked better for me. The sauce is delicious and my husband and I said that this is a keeper for sure! We really enjoyed the flavors and it’s an easy dish to make!
Hey Michele,
Happy Monday! I appreciate you giving this recipe a try, so glad to hear it was a hit!
Sauce was so watery. Flavor was okay, not my favorite. But easy to toss together on a week night
Hi Claire,
I appreciate you giving this dish a try and sharing your feedback! Sorry about the sauce. If you want to try again, you can add a cornstarch slurry to thicken it up.
Really good and easy! I read the reviews before making and did 1 TBL of corn starch slurry and added it to the sauce before pouring it over the chicken and veggies. It was delicious and the perfect consistency. I also added sliced carrots and then sliced mushrooms half way thru the cooking. Thank you for posting a new favorite!
Hey Betsy,
Happy Friday!! Thrilled to hear this recipe turned out well for you, thanks so much for making it and taking the time to comment!
The sauce came out extremely watery – wish I would have read the reviews about adding corn starch prior to cooking.
Not sure why this wasn’t included in the initial recipe.
Hi Kaylee,
Thanks for trying this dish and your comment. I never have an issue with a thin sauce, which is why the cornstarch is not part of the recipe. Again, so sorry!
Flavor is good, but I was expecting a thicker sauce that wasn’t runny.
Hi Nicole,
Thanks for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback, sorry to hear about your sauce! If you want to try again, a cornstarch slurry might be helpful!
Just made this for dinner, the flavor is there., I used chicken breast should’ve done half breast half thighs but was lazy, the sauce is good but like a lot of people have said their sauce was watery, any suggestions as to what we did wrong or maybe what we could do to make the sauce thicker, I was thinking of putting a little cornstarch in the sauce then pouring it over the chicken and bake as per instructions.
Hey Lori,
Thanks so much for making this dish and sharing your feedback! For a thicker sauce, you can do a cornstarch slurry, that will work nicely for you!
Have a great week!
My sauce was very watery after cooking it for 30 mins. So I added in 3-4 tablespoons of cornstarch and cooked it for 5-8 more mins then broiled it for 5 mins. Sauce came out nice and thick after that!
The sauce is very runny. I too wish the recipe calls for tapioca flour (healthier than cornstarch)
