When I set out to create this recipe, I really wanted to do my best to recreate something we’d order in a restaurant, yet made at home and ideally better. Plus, my family has been enjoying recipes with steak more lately, so I’m having fun playing around with new ideas!

This recipe is honestly very easy, steak with broccoli and ginger in a great sauce.

Simply add coconut rice, creamy spicy mayo, and a fresh cucumber salad. We think it’s just delish!

here are the details

Because we’re cooking steak, this cooks even quicker than our usual sheet pan dinners. Toss the steak with flour or arrowroot powder if you’re gluten-free. Then, black pepper and a drizzle of oil. Then add the ginger.

On the other side of the pan, toss the broccoli with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange everything in one layer. Make sure to not overcrowd the pan. The idea is that when you transfer the pan to the oven, you’ll cook the steak at a higher temperature and get it crispy.

While everything is cooking, mix the sauce. Tamari, maple syrup or honey, chili paste (I love to use Gochujang). Then add garlic, some of that ginger juice from the pickled ginger jar, and a light drizzle of toasted sesame oil.

Grab the sheet pan from the oven, if the broccoli is cooked, pull it off the pan. Then, add the sauce. Switch the oven over to broil and broil the steak until it’s caramelized (watch carefully).

Then toss up the cucumber salad. Just some Persian cucumbers, green onions, and chili flakes. So simple, but so fresh.
Serve the steak, and vegetables over top of the rice.

Finish this all up with fresh green onions, and if you’d like, a spicy, creamy mayo sauce! It’s our absolute favorite.

If you took the broccoli off the pan, add it back now. Toss both the steak and the broccoli with the sauce. Now get that rice that you hopefully already cooked up. Serve the steak, broccoli, and salad over top of the rice.

Finish this all up with fresh green onions, and if you’d like, a spicy, creamy mayo sauce! It’s our absolute favorite.

This is a great easy recipe, easier than a stir-fry and less mess to clean. I have to say though that maybe I prefer the texture of stir-fried steak and broccoli than this bake & broil method, but that’s a small quibble. We ended up not making the spicy mayo (which is really good BTW in your other recipes!) or cucumber salad for this, just served it with rice.

I was thrilled to find the pickled ginger in our regular grocery store, no special trip to the Asian market 1 town over required! I used cornstarch as some others suggested instead of flour. We used 2 tablespoons of Gochujang paste and it was plenty (and we like it hot).

    Thanks for another great recipe

This is a tasty recipe! Crunchy broccoli, medium well beef, and refreshing cucumber salad all work well together! I modified it with brown rice and left out the spicy mayo. But based on prior experience with other recipes on this blog containing coconut rice and spicy mayo, I think those would be great!

    1. Hey Anjali,

  7. Another fabulous dinner that we can give YOU credit for! Only item I didn’t have on hand was pickled ginger. ( I must say my husband is so happy. There is now a jar of Ginger in our refrigerator.) since I was having company for dinner I doubled the portions and used two sheet pans full of beef and broccoli. That final broil at the end just caramelized everything perfectly. I also made your cucumber salad and it was refreshing and cool compared to the lovely spice in this dish. Thanks again! Great dish!

We made this and the flavor was wonderful! My steak came out a little chewy, though. Next time I think I will coat it in cornstarch instead of flour. There will definitely be a next time. Coconut rice was so tasty, too.

Delicious!Basically stir fried in the oven-so smart. I would definitely use a low sodium or Tamari in the sauce mix- regular soy is way too salty. Beef prep modification, added some cornstarch to the flour mixture to lighten up the coating. Cucumber salad modified with rice wine vinegar, sugar, few chili flakes, cucumbers and green onions. Felt no need to add the spicy mayo but get how that could add another flavor element.

    1. Hey there,

This was SO GOOD. My picky son ate thirds – that means it’s a winner in our book. Definitely don’t skip on the pickled ginger – it adds so much!

I made this for dinner and everyone loved it! My head of broccoli was kind of small and I didn’t quite have enough beef so I added an orange pepper which I think gave it nice flavor. Also, don’t skip the cucumber salad! It truly makes the dish pop! It’s definitely a keeper.

    1. Hey Jane,

This is the best beef and broccoli that I have made. The pickled ginger takes it to the next level. The sauce is awesome and it’s so easy with everything being done on a sheet pan. Look no further, you’ve found the recipe for dinner tonight!
