When I set out to create this recipe, I really wanted to do my best to recreate something we’d order in a restaurant, yet made at home and ideally better. Plus, my family has been enjoying recipes with steak more lately, so I’m having fun playing around with new ideas!

This recipe is honestly very easy, steak with broccoli and ginger in a great sauce.

Simply add coconut rice, creamy spicy mayo, and a fresh cucumber salad. We think it’s just delish!

here are the details

Because we’re cooking steak, this cooks even quicker than our usual sheet pan dinners. Toss the steak with flour or arrowroot powder if you’re gluten-free. Then, black pepper and a drizzle of oil. Then add the ginger.

On the other side of the pan, toss the broccoli with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange everything in one layer. Make sure to not overcrowd the pan. The idea is that when you transfer the pan to the oven, you’ll cook the steak at a higher temperature and get it crispy.

While everything is cooking, mix the sauce. Tamari, maple syrup or honey, chili paste (I love to use Gochujang). Then add garlic, some of that ginger juice from the pickled ginger jar, and a light drizzle of toasted sesame oil.

Grab the sheet pan from the oven, if the broccoli is cooked, pull it off the pan. Then, add the sauce. Switch the oven over to broil and broil the steak until it’s caramelized (watch carefully).

Then toss up the cucumber salad. Just some Persian cucumbers, green onions, and chili flakes. So simple, but so fresh.
Serve the steak, and vegetables over top of the rice.

Finish this all up with fresh green onions, and if you’d like, a spicy, creamy mayo sauce! It’s our absolute favorite.

If you took the broccoli off the pan, add it back now. Toss both the steak and the broccoli with the sauce. Now get that rice that you hopefully already cooked up. Serve the steak, broccoli, and salad over top of the rice.

Finish this all up with fresh green onions, and if you’d like, a spicy, creamy mayo sauce! It’s our absolute favorite.

    1. Hi Reem,
Your local grocery store should carry it, I typically find mine at Whole Foods:) Please let me know if I can help in any other way! xT

  3. Good morning, my question is about how you clean your sheet pans after making all of these delicious meals!

    1. Hey Rhonda,
If they are super sticky, I let them soak in hot water and soap, otherwise just scrub well with a sponge! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xT

Made this tonight, such an easy weeknight meal when you’re short on time. Picked up a flank steak at TJs – I don’t normally buy meat there but the steak seems to be okay. Tasted like take out – thank you for sharing!

    1. Hey Ali,
Awesome!! Thanks a bunch for testing this recipe out, so glad to hear it turned out well for you! xT

  5. What is a good substitute for pickled ginger juice if my store doesn’t have pickled ginger? Or is it best to just make it?

    1. Hi Anna,
How about sriracha? That should work well for you! Please let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love this recipe! xT

    2. Sriracha mixed with some miso paste is a good substitute for gochujang: it has the same level of heat and umami flavor.

    1. Thanks so much Becky!! You can add the shallots with the steak! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xT

  6. I’m hi, this looks great. I am not seeing where you use the shallot. I may have missed that. Also, is that a bowl of chopped green onions we are seeing in the bowl? They look larger like pepperccinis. And is there any sauce on the cucumber salsd?

That’s all. Thank you. I am a specific recipe follower 🤪

    1. Hi Christu,
Thanks so much! You are going to go ahead and add the shallots with the steak. Yes, the green onions go with the cucumber salad:) No sauce is used on the cucumbers, you can follow those ingredients as listed! I hope you love this recipe! xx

    2. I too am a specific recipe follower. I have been checking back daily to see if the recipe was revised to show when to use the shallots and finally it has been corrected. Regarding your question about the cucumber salad, the directions say “Ad 1-2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil” although this toasted sesame oil is not listed in the ingredients list. So yes, there is a liquid added to the cucumber salad and it is toasted sesame oil.

    1. Pickled ginger can be found in the Asian food section of most grocery stores, but don’t buy the brand that is dyed pink. I think it has a chemical taste to it.

      1. Hi Lori! I made this tonight and realized when I sat down to enjoy it that I never used the shallots. Based on the pictures, I am going to assume you slice them and put them on the pan to mix in and cook with the steak!

    2. Hi Rachel,
Yes, you should be able to find pickled ginger at your local grocery store. Please let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love this recipe! xT
