Sesame Ginger Steak Skewers with Peanut Sauce. These are delicious, fun, and easy for warm spring and summer nights. The beef is made with Thai chili sauce, ginger, and sesame oil, then grilled until lightly charred around the edges. Serve these simple, yummy steak skewers with a homemade peanut sauce recipe that has just the right amount of spice and saltiness. Paired together, they’re so delicious. Be generous with the peanut sauce; it makes this beef the most delicious!

We’re so close to summer! I know everyone’s excitement is building, with Memorial Day just one week from today. We’re making summer plans, searching for new recipes, and getting excited for what’s to come!
I knew these skewers would be wonderful for this week. Now that the weather is turning to summery temperatures, they’re great for throwing on the grill. If you’re planning any kind of Memorial Day party, I highly recommend making these!

Lately, I’ve been having a lot of fun creating new beef recipes. I’ve shared so many chicken recipes over the last 12 years, but not nearly the same amount of beef. But I’m coming up with so many fun summer beef ideas.
We love Asian-style dinners, so these skewers are perfect for us. I’ve already made them three times this month!
I love to serve the skewers bowl-style with coconut rice and a simple mix of avocado, lime, cilantro, basil, toasted sesame seeds, and a pinch of flaky sea salt.
So delicious!

Step 1: make the peanut sauce
This sauce is my favorite. When I first started making it, I used to make it with coconut milk, but now I make it even simpler. It’s a mix of peanut butter (I love Whole Foods 365 creamy peanut butter with just peanuts and salt), tamari (you can, of course, use soy sauce or coconut aminos), Thai red curry paste, pickled ginger (often labeled as sushi ginger), and toasted sesame oil.
I find it easiest to blend the sauce in a blender, food processor, or use an immersion blender to get it really creamy!

Step 2: the steak
I kept this so simple. Use a skirt or flank steak and cut the meat into cubes.
Then mix the steak with sweet Thai chili sauce, tamari (or soy), lots of garlic and ginger, and some chili paste (either Thai or Korean Gochujang). If you have time, let the steak marinate for an hour or even all day long to deepen the flavors.
Step 3: thread the steak onto skewers and grill
Thread the marinated steak onto the skewers. If you want, you could also add chunks of pineapple to each skewer—that would be so delicious!
Heat your grill and cook each skewer until light grill marks appear around the steak.

Step 4: serving
While the steak is cooking, I like to mix slices of avocado with lime juice, cilantro, basil, and sesame seeds.
I also make a pot of coconut rice! Then, I love to serve the skewers over the rice. Top with lots of peanut sauce, and enjoy the avocado on the side.
Be generous with the peanut dipping sauce, you’ll love it! I swear it’s addicting.
Enjoy immediately. These skewers are so little effort, and so delicious and fun!
Everyone in my family has agreed that they could easily eat this once or twice a week. The steak is perfection—spicy, sweet, and tangy—and the sauce is everyone’s favorite—creamy, peanutty, and salty!

The peanut sauce was so salty. Was that the soy sauce?
Hi Polly,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe! Sorry to hear the peanut sauce was so salty. It could have been the soy sauce, next time I would try low sodium soy sauce or tamari. I hope this helps! xT
This looks so yummy, and excited to try! Any substitutes for pickled ginger? I know it’s easy to make, but trying to avoid for only using a tablespoon.
Hey Anna,
You can just skip it:) I hope you love this recipe! xT
Hello! My husband and I loved this dish! I marinated the steak for a few hours, added pineapple in between on the skewers and served over your recipe for coconut rice. It was all so delicious!

Hi,
Do you think I could broil these in the oven? If so, how long? I don’t have a grill pan, and mobility limits my access to the bbq.
Thank you, Tieghan
Hey Jane,
Do you have a cast iron skillet? I think that would work nicely for you, just skip the skewers:) Let me know if I can help in any other way! xT
Made this tonight and it’s fabulous!

I made this and the steak was excellent. My husband loved the peanut nut sauce but mine was very dark? Perhaps the Tamarind sauce? As usual HBH hits the high note
Thanks so much, Maureen! Love to hear that this dish was enjoyed:) Yes, it could have been the tamari or just different brands of ingredients that caused your sauce to be super dark. xx
Maureen, did you use tamari/soy sauce or tamarind? If tamarind, that could be the issue!
Soooo good!! I added broccoli to the skewers and made cilantro lime rice instead of using it as topping and it was just chefs kiss. Another win for Tieghan!
Hey Julia,
Fantastic! Thanks a lot for trying this recipe and your comment, love to hear it was a hit! Xx
Could you use a strip loin or rib eye steak?
Hey Lynn,

Good Morning. We love Pork with Ginger……could I sub Pork for beef?
Thanks

Of course, that sounds like a great idea! Let me know if you give this recipe a try, I hope you love it! xT
We made this recipe with pork tenderloin and it worked great; we did not cook the meat on skewers but as pieces on an oven rack.
Love the simplicity of this meal and its many flavors. The sauce was too salty for us so I added honey and little more peanut butter and it did the trick. Yummy!
Hey Linda,
Thanks so much! So glad to hear that this recipe turned out well for you, I appreciate you making it! xx
Now just wait a minute here. Something is wrong. The correct title for this recipe is….Sesame Thai Ginger Coconut Garlic Chili Paste Steak Skewers & Soy Peanut Sauce with Lime & Avocado! lol.

Could I use pork loin or pork tenderloin instead of beef?
Hey Barbara,
Sure, either of those would work well for you! Let me know if you give this recipe a try, I hope you love it! xT
I have a question. How do you keep the flank steak or skirt steak from being tough? I find, especially skirt steak to be difficult to get tender and with flank steak, I have to slice it thinly across the grain. I would love any suggestions to make sure that the steak is not too tough.
Try marinating overnight! Marinating these cuts is a must so I always aim for overnight! You can also buy the meat already tenderized or ask your butcher to tenderize it for you!
Hey Grace,
Typically the longer you marinate, the more tender the meat will be. Also, like you said it is important to cut it correctly against the grain. I hope this helps, let me know if you give this recipe a try! xT
Super excited to try this new peanut sauce. I too always use coconut milk, but always willing to try new recipes. Thanks for creating new beef recipes, super excited to see what else you come up with !
Thanks so much, Lori:) Let me know if you give this recipe a try, I hope you love it! xT
