You don’t need to be a professional baker to make this deliciously easy dessert. Layers of sweet, chewy dates, salty mini pretzels, creamy peanut butter, and rich dark chocolate come together to create a homemade candy bar that’s both simple and satisfying. Each bite is sweet, salty, crunchy, and chewy — peanut butter Snickers vibes, just made with better-for-you ingredients.

If you’ve been here for a while, you might remember the 5-Ingredient Chocolate-Dipped Peanut Butter Cookies I shared years ago — all the way back in January 2018. That was the year we all went to South Korea… do you remember?
I made those cookies before we left, and they’re still one of my absolute favorites, especially for January. Even my family — who don’t exactly love dates — can’t get enough of them.
Back then, dates weren’t really a trending ingredient. Now they’re everywhere, and honestly, it’s one food trend I can fully get behind. I adore dates. They’re nature’s candy — chewy, sweet, and packed with nutrients. A date a day is what I say!
Today, I’m sharing the easiest dark chocolate date bark. It’s made with just five ingredients: dates, pretzels (optional if you prefer no crunch), peanut butter, and dark chocolate. Simple, satisfying, and perfect for an easy winter treat.

Ingredients

Split each date in half, remove the pit, and arrange the dates on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Press them into a rectangle, making sure each date is touching at least one other so they form a solid base.
Scatter the pretzels evenly over the dates. Drizzle the peanut butter on top, then gently spread it into an even layer.
Transfer the pan to the freezer while you melt the chocolate.

Melt the chocolate chips, then pour the melted chocolate over the peanut butter layer. Use a spoon to spread the chocolate evenly.
Sprinkle with flaky sea salt. I also love adding dried rose petals — they’re so pretty.
Freeze until fully set, then crack or cut the bark into wedges. Enjoy!
I like to keep these stored in the freezer.
The final result? Chewy dates on the bottom, the creamiestං peanut butter center with just the right amount of salt, and a chocolate top that cracks with every bite.
So delicious — and perfect for parties and gifting since this really feeds a crowd.

These didn’t turn out at all 🙁
Hi Darlene,
Sorry to hear this. What went wrong with them? Please let me know how I can help!
WOW. It’s the best when something this simple is so delicious! A perfect salty sweet snack for the end of my pregnancy. I used what I had on hand, 1.5 C dark chocolate and ½ C milk chocolate chips. Will definitely be making this again!
Hey Anika,
Thanks so much for making this recipe and your comment, love to hear it was a winner!
These did not hold up well for me at all. The peanut butter did not fully freeze, and I see that yours is runny in the pictures above as well as on Instagram. I even froze it for longer, but it still did not solidify. I wish that you would’ve shown pictures or videos of what the bottom of your bars look like. These were a disaster.
Very sorry to hear this, Blair. Thanks for trying this bark and sharing your feedback.
It looks like peanuts were added on top of the peanut butter in your stories, but they are not mentioned in the recipe. Have you added them? If so, how much? It sounds like a yummy addition.
Hi Nancy,
I just used a handful of peanuts, they are a nice addition if you want to add them:) I hope you love this recipe!
Great recipe! I used pretzel thins instead of regular pretzels and it was a game charger! Highly recommend! My peanut butter is a little drippy even refrigerated but I don’t think that’s a bad thing – just makes them a little more messy to eat. Thanks for this simple recipe!
Hey Elizabeth,
Happy Friday!! Thrilled to hear this recipe turned out well for you, thanks so much for making it and taking the time to comment!
I really wanted these to work, but they didn’t hold up well for me.
Hi Haley,
Thanks for trying this recipe. Sorry to hear you had some issues, what do you mean by they didn’t hold up well? Is there something specific that I can help with? Please let me know!
These did not turn out for me at all 🙁
Hi Stacey,
Sorry to hear this. What did not turn out? What went wrong and how can I help? Thanks for trying the recipe!
First of all … you are amazing! And how in the world you continue to stay so sweet & kind to some of these comments, I am truly in awe! I made these last night and they were amazing. I snapped, broke & cut, no problem. I knew to melt the peanut butter a little so I could drizzle it on top of the pretzels. They were not a mess, and they did not fall apart, nor were they “a pile of mush!” Food should always be beautiful so the rose petals were a lovely addition, you do not taste them, they just make food lovely. Thank you for sharing this and all your recipes. I appreciate you sharing your talent and making me look fabulous when I make your recipes! Much love & tremendous respect! – Kim
Thanks so much, Kim:) I appreciate you trying this bark and sharing all of your notes! I am so glad it turned out well for you!
Have a happy New Year!
This did not stay together well for me at all. It was extremely messy and just kind of fell apart. I followed the recipe exactly.
Hey Tina, I am so sorry this didn’t work. Is there anything that was changed? I’m just not sure what could have happened. Did you use chocolate chips? What do you mean it fell apart? Any details?
Again so sorry!
Do we need to put anything with the chocolate to melt it? Coconut oil?
Hi Mandy,
You can add coconut oil, but you don’t have to:) I hope you love this recipe, let me know if you give it a try!
I’m confused how to break these apart whenever dates are not a food that snaps. Help?
Hi Ashley,
Once you pop these in the freezer, you should be able to break the bark or you can use a knife to cut it. I have done both:)
Let me know if you give this recipe a try!
How are we supposed to drizzle peanut butter when peanut butter is thick? The consistency of peanut butter is not one that would make it drizzle…
Hi Amy,
I like to use natural peanut butter which I can easily drizzle. If that is not something you use, try popping your peanut butter in the microwave for a few seconds and that should help!
Please let me know if I can help in any other way:)
Peanut butter is thick. How are we to drizzle it when it is not runny?
Hey Michelle,
I like to use a natural peanut butter which is more on the runny side. If you want to warm your peanut butter in the microwave for a few seconds, it will become easier to drizzle. I hope this helps!
I had made a date “bar” of yours before and it was such a mess and fell apart. Many of the comments stated the same. Will those one hold together better? I love dates but don’t want a pile of mush. 😂
Hi Tina,
Sorry to hear this. This bark should not fall apart:)
Let me know if you give this recipe a try!
How many pieces of bark does this make?
Hi Marlene,
It really just depends how small or large you make your bark pieces:)
Let me know if you give this recipe a try!
Would the rose petals give an odd contrast with the peanut butter and dates?
Hi Angela,
I love to use them, but you certainly don’t have to. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Have a great Tuesday!
