Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

{fresh berries and peaches for my raspberries crumble bars that I made on IG this week}
Is it just me or is June already starting to fly by? The weeks have been so busy that Iโm only now just realizing how fast the month is going by. I am very happy to report that it is finally starting to get green here in the mountains. It actually feels like summer might just make an appearance here sometime soonโฆish. I really canโt even begin to explain how happy itโs made me to see flowers popping up out of the ground and green leaves blossoming on the trees. It was certainly a loonnggg winter, so the vibrant green trees and grass feel extra exciting this year.
Currently, all of my family is here in Coloradoโฆwell almost all of my family is here. Weโre missing one brother, Brendan, but considering there are 7 of us Gerard kids, I would say 6 out the 7 is pretty good for a non-holiday week. Itโs been nice seeing my brothers and having them around to cook for. They eat so differently than the way I tend to cook. Iโve been making a lot of old favorites like chicken noodle casserole and Korean grilled steak. Iโm hoping to throw in some vegetable-based meals this coming week! I canโt get enough of the summer vegetables and fruits right now. They have me so excited.
How has your June been going so far? Hoping you are all enjoying the warmer weather and fresh produce as much as I am!
Coming up this week on HBH, weโll be sharing a fun appetizer recipe thatโs great for Fatherโs Day, new summer salads, an addicting ice cream cake, and so much more!
Lastly, if you missed anything from the past week, be sure to sign up for our newsletterย here. Hope youโre all having the best weekend, and enjoy this Sundayโs Nine Favorite Things!

4. Questions of The Week:ย
q: Is there anywhere you are dying to travel to?
a: Italy! Can you believe I have never been? Also Spain!
q: What do you sub for cilantro when you have a non-cilantro eater?
a: I always suggest subbing basil for cilantro. In most recipes, it usually works pretty well!
q: What is your favorite food photography prop?
a: The food!! I always highlight the food first and the props come second. Favorite props are handmade pottery/ceramics and flowers! Anything vintage/antique/unique that not many people have!
q: Do you have a good substitute for heavy whipping cream for desserts?
a: It depends on the recipe, but if youโre not whipping the cream, I recommend using canned full fat coconut milk. But again, depends on the recipe!
5. Newest Videos:ย
Strawberry Hibiscus Margaritaโฆevery summer weekend needs a good cocktail. This is surely a favorite.
6. Learning Life Lessonsโฆslowly.
This past week, I had quite the day on Tuesday with an afternoon that resulted in non-stop computer work and problem-solving. It was stressful, to say the least, but the good news is, all has been resolved and life went on. Itโs always so hard for me to see anything but the negative in stressful situations, especially when deep in the moment. Itโs almost ingrained into me to look at the negatives and fixate on them.
Looking back on everything now, Iโm actually really happy with the way I managed the situation. Instead of becoming completely overwhelmed and overly emotional (which I tend to do), I took everything in, reacted in a more rational way, and problem solved. By the time I went to bed, which was way too late, I had done all I could do to mend the situation. The rest was out of my hands. So I let it go.
Iโm really happy that I didnโt allow myself to get walked on, and stayed firm in my direction. Because of my younger age, I think people sometimes feel as though Iโm someone they can tell what to do. Slowly I am learning how to navigate and be much more firm with people about what I want. Especially with a project that has my name. Itโs not easy, but Iโm learningโฆprogress is key!
A year ago I probably would have given in. I guess itโs true what they say, with age comes knowledge. And thatโs my little life lesson for the day!
Question: how do you best handle a stressful situation with someone you work closely with? Would love to hear any of your tips and things youโve learned along the way.

Loved reading this post, Tieghan! Youโre so talented with your photography ? I can spend so long going through your photos and recipes. They all look amazing! Something fun about your IG account.. I have a 14 year old brother who is severely Autistic and non verbal. He has always loved food, looking at cookbooks, watching others bake and cook, and getting to help in the kitchen. Recently we showed Levi one of your recipe/food videos on IG, and he is hooked! Besides the food looking so delicious, I think he loves how fast everything moves along. Iโm so tickled that he loves your food vids! โก xx, Rebekah
Awh youโre too sweet! I am so glad you like my photos and recipes, Rebekah! I hope you love every recipe you try! xTieghan
Tieghan ..I love these Sundayโs posts and I get so many ideaโs and info from each one! Do not worryโฆyou WILL get to Italy one of these days. I donโt think itโs going anywhere..lol..And you will love it! There is just so much to see and eat! Ha! You know, , with age will come wisdom and as a business woman, you have to stand your ground, and be your own advocate. But..you also need to listen to what people maybe have to say. Some have wise things to say, and others just want to bully. You will know the difference and you will know what you want and what feels right or wrong. Then you go with your decision. If itโs the wrong one, then youโve learned something and you move on. Life carries on with you or without you, no matter what. I donโt think you have to worry about anything. From where Iโm standing, I think youโre just doing just fine and are quite successful for someone your age. As you get older, youโll learn how to handle your emotions. Iโm thinking it may be more about not wanting to hurt feelings when youโre dealing with people close to you. Sometimes people think they know what โyouโ want or whatโs best for you, but if you feel they arenโt on the same page as you, you just have to tell them. Sometimes they may know what is the best way to do something (just from a lifetime of learning and wisdom) , so you may need to hear them out..go with it, compromise, or not. In the end, itโs your decision. Right or wrongโฆwho ever knows for sure! Soโฆquitโcher worrying!
Hi Colleen! This is such an amazing comment to read, thank you for sharing this! I will try to keep in mind what is best for me! xTieghan
soโฆhow did i miss โthis weekโs dinnerโ? have you been doing this a long time? All of your food is amazing.
BTWโฆit isnโt just age that has people trying to bend your will โ i find itโs also the male/female thing. I will be 62 this year, and still have men thinking they know whatโs best for me, or how to do things. Itโs a life long struggle, even though i am completely assertive. I try to turn it around on folks that DO try to dominate โ and make it fun โ make them squirm a bit. How you do that depends on the situations you find it happening. Best.
I am so glad you are enjoying my blog and recipes, Janet! Thank you! Also, thank you so much for your advice and kind words! xTieghan
Coping with stressโฆ
Travel is stressful and unpredictable. I have learned when I travel to go with the flow. It will all work out in the end. So, new strategy, when I feel overwhelmedโฆ Every day is a travel day. Take the lessons learned. Go with the flow. It will all work out in the end. You know they say if it hasnโt worked out yet it isnโt the end.
I look forward to your nine favorites every week. Thank you for being so faithful about doing this! I also love your news letter, your cookbook, your recipes, your style, everything!
