Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

So far, I am really loving August! I kicked the week off in New York City, and I know Iโ€™ve been saying this, but I really love spending time there. NYC has so much energy, itโ€™s the complete opposite of living in small town Colorado, so I love the change of pace. Excited to already have plans to be traveling back this fall (my very favorite season!) for a few exciting projects.

While New York was amazing, getting from NYC to Cleveland was a complete different story. I may never fly out of LaGuardia airport again, especially on United. My flight on Wednesday night was completely cancelled, with no accommodations for the night and no easy way to reschedule. I re-booked for the next morning, but again, my flight was delayed. Once we finally left the gate, we spent over forty-five minutes on the tarmac. United did nothing to help, no hotel, no help re-booking, and honestly, they treated everyone so poorly. I was super unimpressed. Iโ€™m just thankful to have eventually made it out ofย LaGuardia!

Iโ€™m in Cleveland this weekend, spending a little time with my family, cooking my brother Creighton steak dinners, and enjoying the hot and humid summerโ€ฆwhich yes, I love. Iโ€™ll be heading home to Colorado tomorrow morning with plans to hit the ground running. Iโ€™ll be testing recipes, photographing, and writing before my next trip out to LA in a couple of weeks.

Coming up this week on HBH Iโ€™ll be sharing a few new easy back-to-school recipes (Asher would kill me if she knew I was writing back-to-school recipes this early), including a delicious no-cook salad and a yummy skillet dinner. Iโ€™ll also be sharing a new tomato recipe, and a very fun cocktail! Canโ€™t wait to go over all the details soon!

1. Inspiringย me this week.ย

Christy Doramus of CMD Creative Studio. I met Christy this past week in NYC and am so in awe of her creativity and her kindness. Sheโ€™s a creative consultant, event floral designer, and entertaining enthusiast. Christy and her team created a BEAUTIFUL set up for an event I was at, along with the prettiest display of the Half Baked Harvest Cookbook. We share a love of flowers and making things look pretty, but Christy and her team take things to an entirely new level.

Sheโ€™s the creator of the Instagram famous flower crown and has worked with celebrities like Drew Barrymoreย and brands like Louis Vuitton and Lilly Pulitzer. No big deal or anythingโ€ฆ

If youโ€™re not already following Christy on Instagram, check her out here. Trust me, her feed will fill yours with the prettiest florals and tablescapes.

4. Five Facts About Me.

  1. I hate white plastic SO much, and really plastic in general, but white especially.
  2. I am a freak about using hand sanitizer in public areas, but especially on airplanes. Anytime I touch anything while on a plane I reach for the hand sanitizer after. No joke. Such a freak.
  3. I donโ€™t love eating out, even when traveling. I am such a homebody and much prefer cooking over going out. When traveling, I do enjoy eating out just to experience new food. I always try to book fun lunches and dinners with friends or do working dinner โ€œmeetingsโ€, but if Iโ€™m not meeting anyoneโ€ฆIโ€™m most likely picking up a salad from Whole Foodsโ€ฆso lame, but true.
  4. I have an obsession with coffee mugs and have way too many.
  5. I told my parents not to get a dog because they are too much work. But I secretly love Merle the most, and probably spend the most time with him. He even travels with the fam, and itโ€™s so nice having him here in Cleveland with us.

Hourglass makeup products. Iโ€™ve been so into skincare and makeup lately and having a lot of fun trying out new products. Iโ€™ve been using the products below from Hourglass cosmetics:

Extreme Lash Mascaraโ€“ 1 coat is plenty for that โ€œno make-up, make-up lookโ€. But use 3 coats, and youโ€™ll look like you have the longest, prettiest lashes. Super fun for a night out.

Ambient Lighting Paletteโ€“ This is everything, itโ€™s the perfect finishing powder to highlight with and looks so pretty on all skin types. I am loving this.

  1. Ah Thanks for the reminder to make the no-bake chocolate chip cookies! Next on my list to make for desserts ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. My husband and I recently made the Chipotle Shrimp Cobb Salad with Jalapeรฑo Corn Vinaigrette but using chicken in place of the shrimp and a nice gorgonzola for the feta. It was fabulous and who knew corn could be made into a dressing. Thanks for our new go to summer salad.

  3. I donโ€™t think itโ€™s LaGuardia or the weather that was the biggest issue. Itโ€™s United. I will NEVER EVER fly United. The staff are rude bordering on obnoxious and the food (in 1st class) was inedible. Everything about the whole experience was horrible. Plus, arenโ€™t they the ones that had all the problems last year with kicking passengers off the plane? On a happier note, I love reading your nine favorite things. I always have to set aside a lot of time to get through all your great ideas. Thanks so much for putting such energy and thought into your posts. They and you are awesome.

    1. Hi Linda! I am so glad you are loving my nine favorite things and recipes! I hope you continue to enjoy them!

  4. I really love this blog. So many tasty recipes!!!! But sometimes ideas for cakes are hard to findโ€ฆ. Thatโ€™s why this amazing website was done! For more information check this out: https://bit.ly/2vly4Nv !!

  5. I agree with the other posters โ€“ I have sympathy for fouled up travel days but the NYC area airports always have a lot of traffic. Yes, if there have been problems on the route network that means too many planes to fly. And 45 minutes on the runway at LaGuardia isnโ€™t uncommon. The east coast had storms and even if they werenโ€™t at LaGuardia it backs up everywhere. Frustrating but the airlines (not just United) arenโ€™t liable for weather accommodation. The best advice would be to buy your tickets with a credit card that offers great coverage for this type of delay.

  6. Years ago I flew United all the time but within the last 10 years that airline has become the most difficult to deal with. After the last ordeal, I vowed NEVER to fly United again and I wonโ€™t. So, know you are not the only one
with a problem with that airline. My favorite is South West if they are going anywhere you want to go. Keep cool!

  7. Were there thunderstorms in the area Wednesday night? My husband is a pilot and said that most airlines donโ€™t give hotels for weather cancellations, not just United. He has been flying on the East coast a lot lately so he has had to deal with the weather issues too. Itโ€™s not fun for all involved.

    1. Hey Kacie!! No weather in the area, they said the flight was canceled due to air traffic control. Apparently, there was too much traffic in the sky to fly? No idea, but I made it and all it good! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you!

  8. Tieghan
I fly quite a bit for business and fly out of LaGuardia mostly.
I feel your pain but I have come to realize that itโ€™s not so much the airport as the city and the weather.
Thunderstorms anywhere between New York and your destination get city will louse things up big time. Couple that with so many people coming in and out of NY and everything just gets backed up and delayed.
My tip is to get the first flight out in the morning. They are usually on time.
    Safe travels home.
    Best
    Susan

  9. Sorry about all your flight issues; and I wish you wouldโ€™ve seen my comments on your last few posts before heading here to Cleveland.
