Nine Favorite Things
I was just looking back at this time last year, and itโs so wild how much a year can change. One thing Iโve really come to love about sharing here day after day for the last 13-ish years is being able to look back and see exactly how things have shiftedโsometimes in big ways, sometimes in small ones.
Itโs like having this giant, living scrapbook. At first, I used to cringe a little reading โpast Tieghan,โ but now I love it. Growth, setbacks, changing directionโit really is two steps forward, one step back sometimes, but thatโs life.
Iโm not a journal keeper, but in a way, this space has become my journalโjust one I share with all of you. Never thought Iโd be that girl, but here we are! A little scary, yes, but Iโve learned that no matter what I do or say, some will love it, some wonโt, and thatโs OK.
This time last year was so different. I was in New York with Blake Lively (remember that?!). Sheโd asked me to create a curated menu for the cast party of her new movie at the time. None of us knew then what that movie would go on to become, but the experience itself was incredible. I still think, โWow, I canโt believe I got to do thatโhow cool!โ
This year, Iโm home in Colorado. Iโve slowed the pace, let my foot heal (itโs doing well!), and tackled some much-needed admin days. It hasnโt been easy, and the rainy weather hasnโt helped, but those sunny days we live for are starting to show up. Itโs amazing what a little sunshine can doโeverything feels lighter.
Iโm especially thankful my foot is healing quickly, because I have some travel coming up soon and Iโm feeling confident Iโll be ready to go just in time. Wahoo!
Overall, itโs been a happy weekโmore sunshine, family all back in Colorado, and getting to give my littlest brother, Oslo, the biggest hug. Iโm feeling excited for mid-August and heading into my favorite time of year!

excited aboutโฆfall travel! And fall in general. I found this cute farmhouse in upstate New York. You can rent the house to stay OR look! Terrain did their Halloween product shoot there last fall. I am obsessed. You guys, tell me, would you care for a Halloween-themed party menu? I would be pretty excited to put that together. Spooky fun!
wantingโฆthis littleย glass dish. Itโs crazy town with the price, but the playful design is too cute. I used to have a necklace like that growing up. This dish would be cute for the bathroom to hold all our rings.

dreaming of goingโฆGrand Hotel Tremezzo: luxury 5 star hotel on Lake Como, Italy. Word on the street is that George Clooney eats dinner here. Honestly, I couldnโt care less about that. What I do care about, however, is this stunning hotel. If I visit Lake Como, this spot is top of my hotel list. Itโs also across from the town of Bellagio, which my parents really enjoyed.

everything in my cart (beauty)โฆfall scents are top of mind this week! The Rare Beauty Rare Eau de Parfum with Vanilla and Caramel sounds wonderful with notes of Caramel, Vanilla, and Sandalwood. I think the Vanilla Verve Perfume from Cyklar sounds perfect โ spicy and sweet, decadent and creamy. Delicious from head to toe with notes of cardamom, vanilla, amber, and tonka bean.
and then! Fall Cashmere with cinnamon bark, roasted almond, and spiced ginger. Sounds like a delicious cookie, donโt you think?

For later in the fall, she needs these cashmere, alpaca and silk-blend bouclรฉ mittens. They have her name all over them, but she hates expensive stuff, so Iโll have to find knock-offs.

I mentioned this last week, but our candles with Snif are coming back this season, along with two new product category launches. Can you guess the new products?ย
First, Apple Cider Smash is now back in stock. This scent sold out on day one last year. Aside from Pumpkin Smash, itโs probably my personal favorite weโve ever created.
And speaking of Pumpkin Smash, itโs fully restocked and ready for you all to burn this season. This is the OG HBH x Snif scent. Itโs the best pumpkin candle youโll come across.
Next, the new products! You guys know how much I love body care and how I use my body creams daily. Well, Snif took note, and together we created our first body butter! The scent is PUMPKIN SMASH. Just in time for the fall season. I canโt believe I now have my own body butter on the market. Itโs so creamy, sweet, and leaves the skin baby soft.
Lastly, a new Pumpkin Smash laundry detergent. Iโve said this before, but Iโve never found a clean laundry detergent that I really loved. So we created one! And itโs launching in the scent of the season, Pumpkin Smash.

My mom loves ChatGPT, but I need to learn more. Do you use it? What do you love about it?
Similarly, but not really, what about Substack? How many of you are using Substack? I donโt personally read any Substack pages, but I know so many creators have them, and Iโve had requests to start one myself. I share so much on the website, through our email newsletter, and then, here on Nine Favorite Things. Substack feels unnecessary. But yet, everyone seems to really enjoy the platform.

I use Copilot from Microsoft instead of ChatGPT. Iโve used both but prefer Copilot. I think itโs faster. I use it multiple times a day for multiple reasons. As for Substack, it is writers covering a variety of topics in essays. Some subscriptions are free, some you have to pay for. I subscribe to several covering issues important to me, such as LGBTQ+ topics, politics, local issues, etc. I recommend Zum laundry detergent in the sea salt scent. Itโs highly rated by Environmental Working Group (EWG). It has only 5 ingredients and is considered clean. Branch Basics is EWG certified and is also clean and fragrance free. Iโve used both.

I see your responses to peopleโs concerns about the snif products below. Target Clean and Ulta Conscious Beauty clean Are really not high standards as far as โcleanโ products go, they actually have fairly low standards of what they consider clean. EWG certified products are truly clean.

If you do a Halloween or fall party menu, please post it well before the holiday. I have found you often post your holiday content really close to a holiday. Most of us plan weeks ahead, not days. So at least 2-3 weeks before Halloween would be helpful!

Just to make you aware the Snif laundry detergents are not โcleanโ, I am sure that is what they told you, but looking at the ingredient list they are not. Please look at the ingredients yourself and research. Their candles are also not โcleanโ either. I do work testing air quality and testing in home air filters and purifiers. Burning candles in your home releases so many toxins into the air, people have no idea how harmful it is. Our lab recently tested candles that are marketed as โcleanโ andโ non toxicโ, including one snif candle, they all released multiple compounds into the air. The air filters were already heavily grey after just 6 hours of burning these candles. You seem concerned with toxins in many other aspects of your life, but then sell a candle that has many ingredients that are not great for you.

Our detergents are formulated to strict retailer clean standards and are both Target Clean and Ulta Conscious Beauty clean for household essentials. Every ingredient has been reviewed and selected to comply with the retailerโs specific requirements! We also know that the term โfragranceโ can be scary when seeing this on an ingredient listing, but we formulate all of our fragrance oils to also be Conscious Beauty clean and comply with IFRAโs (the International Fragrance Association) clean guidelines.
In addition, we took it one step further too and conducted 3rd party testing to ensure that our detergents were that safe! Our test results came back and passed with flying colors, and are certified non-irritating for skin and dermatologist-tested.
All this said, you have try everything out or talk to your doctors before deciding on whether a product works you. Everyone is so different!!! You know?

I would love a Halloween or fall party menu/ideas! Easy recipes that can be served to a group and kid friendly! Like others have commented I am not really into the photo shoots/stories you have done, they just seem kind of fake and over the top (not how 99.9% of people actually entertain). I would love to see a fall party with your friends or family and see how you actually cook, serve and decorate for a party or get together. More realistic rather than the focus on designer clothes.

I wouldnโt read a substack, but I appreciate you asking. I think substacks work best when the author has a unique or interesting perspective to share in a longer format. I definitely like some of Tieghanโs recipes, but I donโt know that I feel she has something meaningful to say on another platform unless she were just reposting recipes, but I donโt think thatโs necessary. I have my own thoughts on what I DO think the brand should focus on, but I wonโt blab on outside of the scope of your question.

Hey Vera! My house is actually very drafty and I donโt have the heat on during the summer, so I just throw on a sweater. It was 28 degrees a this morning!

Regarding ChatGPT, I think itโs great as long as you use it smartly. Sometimes we tend to stop thinking or challenging ourselves because AI can do the work, but itโs incredibly useful when used thoughtfully.

I cannot find a good clean laundry detergent either! I have tried a lot. Sadly I just looked at the ingredients in the Snif one of yours and it is not clean or non toxic. There are quite a few questionable ingredients listed.

Please, no more โeditorialโ shoots. It may be a fun opportunity for you to dress up in designer clothes and have your hair and makeup done, but they donโt resonate with people. Authentic is much more interesting. You said you often host friends at home. Share actual dinners you are hosting at home, share the prep, the menu, the decor. You donโt have to share guestsโ faces. A genuine occasion to gather is much more captivating than a manufactured photo shoot.
