nine favorite things

While last week was mostly spent traveling, this week has been spent completely at home, cooking, baking, and planning! Last week was so fun and exciting; I loved every minute of the busy schedule. This week threw me some challenges, but reflecting on it all, I still have a lot of excitement and can not wait to share what we are planning for the launch of Quick and Cozy, the fourth cookbook!

The craziness will start in September with back-to-back New York trips, then LA, Utah, Austin, and even Palm Springs. With so much on the calendar for the fall season, I’m trying to, for once in 12 years, actually have content stored for busy weeks. It’s the hardest thing for me to do, but I am trying to have fun with it.

Do you have any recipes you would love to see in September and October?

This week had highs and lows. I let the lows get me down a little. I usually don’t have too much of a problem ignoring the negativity.  I read the quote below, and onward I went. Because, really, if you have enough time in your day to hate on people you’ve never met, you must be pretty unhappy and, likely, pretty bored as well.

I’m grateful that I am none of those things, and I hope they find happiness soon.

Moving on, we have some really delicious recipes coming. This week, I’m starting to create recipes for September. I cannot wait! I am so excited for September to be here. It is one of my favorite months of the year. I’m looking forward to apple season, football starting back up, bowls of chili, homemade beer bread, and baking spooky treats for “spooky season”. Plus, Cocktail-Mocktail Saturday! I think we’ll start those back up the first week of October. Wahoo!

I love seeing so many of you sharing the pumpkin smash candle. It’s always fun to see you burning our original HBH x Snif candle, which is now a classic.

Many of you will receive your first Home Chef boxes in the mail tomorrow! I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of this year’s Home Chef x HBH menu. I think it’s even better than last year!

What else? We’ll celebrate Asher’s 16th birthday this week. I can’t believe she’ll be driving – I can’t believe she’s 16! I was 15 when she was born, and it’s crazy that all these years have passed. She’s my best friend, my personal assistant, and the girl I love the most. I still need to find something special for her, and I am stumped. So many ideas, but none of them are “the thing”. I better think of something soon – time is ticking!

That’s all I have this week. So much to look forward to in the next few months! I hope everyone is feeling that excitement too!

What are you most excited for this September?

nine favorite things

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

ordered…and love these measuring cups. They are sadly sold out, so I recommending you try the pie plate or butter dish!

trying…this at-home Lymphatic Massage Roller. I’ve read so many glowing reviews on it!

everything in my cart (low)…a cute sports bag! I think the new Beis sports duffle is perfect for travel days and tennis, but I also love this Nike gym bag.

This week’s Zara finds include two cute dresses, the Balloon Hem Mini Dress and Plain Knit Short Sleeve top. Also love these Cropped Straight Jeans. You could wear them with this Plain Knit Short Sleeve top + Satin Effect Heeled Mules. Such a good casual, cute everyday look! OK, and last piece, definitely this Suede Leather Blazer

listening to…Sabrina Carpenter. Her new album has been on repeat since Friday.

dreaming of going to…Out of Office: 20 Fashion Designers on Their Favorite Hotels and Resorts Around the World. So many to visit. Hotel Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole, Italy would be my first stop. Then Hoshinoya Fuji in Yamanashi, Japan (wow, so pretty, need to go in the spring when the trees are blooming), and definitely Villa Feltrinelli in Lake Garda, Italy, too. Within the US, I’ve always wanted to stay at Blackberry Farm in Wayland, Tennessee. The photos are stunning, and I always hear the best stories from everyone’s stay. Also, Montage Deer Valley in Park City looks very pretty, and I’m very curious about Nemacolin in Farmington, Pennsylvania.

something fun…Which ‘Gilmore Girls’ Character You Are, Based on Your Zodiac Sign. One of the reasons I love fall is Gilmore Girls on repeat every single September and October. My comfort zone.

something random…growing up, one of my favorite snacks was a bag of mini pretzels twist and a block of cream cheese. I dipped the pretzel in the cream cheese, got a good amount, and savored it. It’s SO GOOD. Don’t knock it until you try it. Cream cheese is so undervalued.

shopping…Heave Mayhem via Revolve. All my favorite watches are below.

baking…nutter butter cookie bars. I love these bars! So much peanut butter goodness.

everything in my cart (beauty)…my go-to Vitamin C is IS Clinical Pre Heal Serum, but recently, I’ve been looking to add more vitamin C to my skincare. I’m going to try BeautyStat Vitamin C Brightening Serum. Apparently, Hailey Bieber is a fan. Speaking of good reviews, this Illuminating Tinted Eye Cream is the best product to hide darker under-eye circles. And I’m dying to try the new(ish) product from Rhode, their Pocket Blush. I’m eyeing the toasted teddy shade for fall.

loving…the Act + Arc Daily Hydro Scalp Serum With Hyaluronic Acid for hydration and strengthing the scalp for better hair growth.

some lip balms to try: the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm (in vanilla), Eadem Sea Silk Lip Balm (in bissap glaze), Rhode Peptide Lip Tint (tested, use and love, try all the shades, but sheer pink works on everyone), Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm (also (tested, use and love, ice coffee is great for fall), and the Mara Sea Silk Lip Balm (I love the clear).

I also ordered the Deadcool Dedtergent Xtra Milk from Sephora. I’m always looking for a great, clean laundry detergent formula.

watching…Here’s Everything Coming to Netflix in September 2024. Emily in Paris is, of course, top of my list. Like most of the world, I love it too.

Everything in my cart (high)…these Chloé thigh-high boots are SO GOOD. I love them for fall. This Phoebe Philo cargo jacket is on my “to-get list.” I love the high neck. Another jacket I love is the Prada Cropped Canvas Jacket.

I also like this sweet Flores Top in salt from Doen. Or try this slightly more affordable Square-Neck Embroidered Tank from Anthropologie. I’d wear both with a leather jacket and jeans. They’re very cute.

following…Betina R. Goldstein. She’s the best of the best when it comes to nails. She works with Chanel as the brand’s official nail artist.

recreating…everything on the Starbucks fall menu. This menu is so good. What’s your favorite drink? Favorite pastry? I think those Racoon cake pops are adorable.

shopping…everything from Coach available now on Shopbop.

Nine Favorite Things

The friends I have outside of my family are a very select group. Low-maintenance friends are the ones you don’t talk to for months because you’re both busy in life, but when you see each other or talk on the phone, there’s nothing but love.

My friend, Kristen, is just that. I found out she’s pregnant with her first baby girl today, and I couldn’t have called her faster. We haven’t spoken since our last shoot day together back in June, but every time we talk, it’s like we haven’t been apart for a second. I am so grateful for her!

I called her the second she shared the pregnancy news, like I dropped the camera from my hands because that’s how excited I am for her, her husband, Wes, and their growing family. She said it was the call she needed the most, and I didn’t even realize it, but I needed to. We lifted each other up, and at the end of our impromptu 45-minute call, we both felt a million times happier and grateful to have each other.

The point of the story is to value those friends who require the least but bring the most to the table. They mean what they say and follow through. They’re the special ones.

And remember, a phone call can really go a long way; don’t ever underestimate them. You never know how a quick call could positively affect someone (or you) until you make it. So pick up the phone when you have a thought. It’s worth it.

  1. Haters gonna hate, sadly they’re everywhere. But you have an open heart, you’re young, hardworking and very successful. People are jealous of your well earned successes. Surround your self with those you love and let the less than kind others go.
Have a beautiful Sunday. Thanks for what you share.

  2. Hi Tieghan! I’ve been a follower for many years now and your recipes truly got me through the pandemic and helped me to become a more confident home cook. Regarding your comments on criticism – I agree that criticism can be incredibly hard to receive, and that some do not do it with kindness or good intentions. However, I don’t believe that all of the criticism you’ve been receiving has been with bad intentions and that some of it does have merit. Given your status as a business owner, an influencer, and human, I think it would be wise of you to consider the valid criticism coming from your followers and supporters who make you money and care about your success. It won’t be easy, it never is! The upside of criticism is that it is a huge way for us to grow and learn as imperfect people. Unless you are prepared to say that you are a perfect human who doesn’t need to grow and learn, then feel free to ignore. But at the end of the day all of us need criticism in some way, shape, or form to continue to be better for ourselves and for each other. Take care of yourself, Teighan, we’re rooting for you.

    1. Hey Johanna,
Thanks so much for your comment and following along. I totally agree with you, I think constructive criticism is important and definitely take those types of feedback to try and be better:) Hope you are having a great Sunday! xx

    2. I agree. I am sorry that Tieghan sees any type of criticism as hate. Most of what she thinks is hate is actually followers asking for clarification on her post. She often leaves out ingredients, the pictures of the steps involved in the making of the recipe don’t match the instructions, she makes statements that contradict previous statements, she talked about how she always posts meatless Monday recipes and yet that has never happened. When a follower asks for an explanation about why what she says and does is so different, this is not hate. It’s questions to try to relieve the confusion that her post often present. She has over 5 million followers. If she wants to keep those followers, she should answer questions to alleviate the confusion, show truth, and integrity in her posts and take the time to make sure her posts are as professional possible . In the end, if a follower continues to follow her it’s because they want to make her recipes. The easiest way to keep her followersis to make sure her recipes are simple enough confusing for the reader and to show integrity by having her actions match her words

  3. Happy Sunday! I cannot wait for Fall and all of your recipes! I have Quick and Cozy on preorder and am so excited to receive it. Keep doing what you’re doing, don’t let them get you down! <3

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words, Bre:) I appreciate you ordering the cookbook, I hope you love it! Have a wonderful Sunday! xT

  4. Hi Tieghan,

I have been to Nemacolin several times and it is amazing! I grew up in Pittsburgh and it is only a little over an hour from there. They do the most amazing “Welcome Santa” week-end (or they did when my kids were small) and they had Santa arrive on a sleigh pulled by reindeers. And the most amazing breakfast with Santa. A nice gift from my parents that made amazing memories for my kids!
Another place I visited recently with very similar vibes is the Equestrian Hotel in Ocala, Florida. It is part of the Equestrian Center there, and the decor is not to be believed.
*Stay postive – your work and content is INSPIRING!

    1. Hey Susan,
Thanks so much for reading today! Omg that sounds like such a blast and what a magical time your kids must have had! I’ll have to check out the location in Florida, thanks for sharing:) Have a wonderful Sunday! xT

  5. For Asher’s birthday I would suggest taking her with you to NYC or another trip you are planning. Or plan a special girls weekend trip. Time spent together is the greatest gift you can give.

    1. Hi Penny,
I love this idea! You are so right about quality time together, thanks so much for your suggestion! Have a great Sunday! xT

  6. Look forward every Sunday morning to your content and favorite things. We love your recipes and are always on rotation in this house. So thank you Tieghan!!!

  7. Hi Tieghan! I have a recipe question!
I adore your Lavender Lemon Sugar Cookies and make them for every special occasion! My 1st granddaughter is turning 1 next week- we’re flying from Boston to Nashville to celebrate with her! I want to make your cookies for her party! We arrive to our rental house early evening the day before the party.
Should I make the dough in advance and freeze it and roll out the cookies in the AM when we arrive and bake, or bake the cookies beforehand and carefully pack ?
Never done this before so not sure the best way to transport everything via travel/ flights !?
Thanks so much ! These cookies are so special and delicious, I just have to make them for Sweet Baby Margie’s special day 💕💕💕

    1. Hi Patricia,
I have made her lavender sugar cookies, too. If I were you, I would make the cookies in advance and pack them carefully. Be sure to wrap in bubble wrap and then place inside a cookie box. Put into your suitcase and wrap in clothes, so nothing brakes. Tieghan also has a lot of tips how to ship cookies, search for “cookie box” to see what she says about how to transport cookies.

I find the flavor intensifies the second day so they will be even better. Good luck!

    2. Hi Patricia,
Aww, how exciting, Happy Birthday to your granddaughter:) I would bake the cookies and safely pack them to bring on the plane. If you are able to put them in a carry on, I think that would be your best option. I would also use some bubble wrap in the box that you pack your cookies, and then wrap them tightly in plastic wrap. I hope this helps! Safe travels:) xT

  8. So lovely to hear about your bff Kristen’s pregnancy! Your words are so kind! Is Kristen a friend from Colorado or Cleveland, I don’t remember meeting her in your insta stories lol! Having a strong group of girlfriends is the best and so important! Congrats to your bestie!

    1. Aww, thanks so much, Kathleen!! Kristen and I met through work and grew our relationship from there:) Hope you are off to a great Sunday! xT

      1. Always nice when employees and colleagues become friends! Work friends can be just as special as childhood or college friendships, that’s for sure. What do you and Kristen like to do outside of work together? I love that you’ve started to share more glimpses of your life outside of the kitchen. Seeing more girl time with your friends would be amazing.

  9. Tieghan,
Bless you and your family. You can’t please all the people all the time, some people just have to berate others. They are jealous of your success and are not happy in their lives. You have the life they wish they had! Keep on doing what makes you happy and from what I have seen for years is your doing an awesome job. When visiting Martha’s Vineyard I saw a sign that I still can recall like the day I saw it in 1981. The Island Doughnut Company, ” As you ramble on through life Whatever be your goal, Keep your eye upon the doughnut And not upon the hole”
Thank you for all the thoughts and efforts that go into 9 Favorite things that make my Sunday better every week, not to mention the great recipes that feed me and my soul.
    Best wishes always.

    1. Hey Jim,
Thanks a lot for reading today and taking the time to comment. So true you can’t please everyone all the time, I always need to remind myself of that. Love this quote from the sign in Martha’s Vineyard:) I appreciate you reading each week and being here! Happy Sunday! xT

  10. Tieghan, I am so sorry that you receive hurtful messages. I don’t understand why this happens. Makes me wonder how these people have been raised…what value system were they taught. Hard as it is..remind yourself everyday of your blessings. Each week l look forward to your blog and appreciate all the effort it takes to put in so much detailed content. I love it all. Cannot wait for your new cookbook.

    1. Hi Marlie,
Happy Sunday! Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment today:) I appreciate your kind words and support! I hope you love the new cookbook just as much as I do! xT

  11. It is beyond me why some people feel the need to tear others down. I think you nailed it when you said I’m glad I’m not them. It is a sad fact of social media today. If people cannot celebrate others or be happy for their successes, but instead feel the need to denigrate. I enjoy reading your recipes trying your recipes and reading your nine favorite things I wish for kindness always.

    1. Hi Lori,
Thanks a lot for your kind message and reading today:) I’m so thankful for you being here and trying so many recipes! Thanks for all of your support! Happy Sunday! xT

  12. Good morning and Happy Sunday, Tieghan! In the spirit of helping you move on from the tough part of your week, and since I know you love a good quote, I share with you a quote from the show The Blacklist. It was written by a character for a friend of his who had suffered unspeakable loss. But if you ask me, pain is pain, regardless of where it comes from. I was struggling at the time and when I heard this quote, it was then that I felt hope:

“There is nothing that can take the pain away. But eventually, you will find a way to live with it. There will be nightmares. And every day when you wake up, it will be the first thing you think about. Until one day, it will be the second thing.” – Raymond “Red” Reddington

Let the hate and the nonsense and all that awful distracting chatter be your “second thing”. You are a supremely talented, hardworking, gifted person who brings so much joy to so many every single day. You have a wonderful family, a successful career, friends who love you, world travel…your blessings are endless!

Have a wonderful day and an amazing week, Tieghan. Happy Unofficial Kickoff to Fall! ❤️🍂🎃🏈🧣And thank you for the link to the Sam Edelman boots! Ordering today.

    1. Hey Jen,
Happy Sunday! Thanks for taking the time to read this morning, as always:) I appreciate you sharing this quote with me, I really like it! I appreciate your kind words, truly this means a lot to me, thanks for always being here! I hope you love the Sam Edelman boots, have the best week! xT
