Nine Favorite Things
Wow, only one Sunday left before Christmas, how crazy is that! This month has felt so short and rushed, it really is the busy season! Youโd think that with all the gift guides weโve been sharing, my holiday shopping would be complete. But in reality, Iโve bought some stocking stuffersโฆand thatโs about it. Iโm definitely feeling the pressure to get things ordered. Especially with all the shipping delays this year.
Have you guys started your holiday shopping? If youโve finished all your shopping, wow, good for you โ so organized! Iโm planning a Sunday night of shopping, which I am looking forward to. Candles, online shopping, and a little Christmas music. Cheesy but my ideal December night.
Even though this month is crazed, itโs still the best time of the year! Itโs even nicer this year because a lot of my siblings are already in town. Which is earlier than most years and I love that. I think I mentioned last week, but Creighton, Kai, Red (and Hailโs Redโs girlfriend) are all here through the holidays. To be honest, I think Creighton is here simply because he misses Oslo so much when heโs in California. Itโs really cute!
Kai, Red, and Hailey are here for competitions this month. Last weekend they had a Big Air in Steamboat, and this coming week itโs Dew Tour. I made them copycat Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches the other night. Itโs fun when they request dishes. The reason I enjoy cooking most began all the way back when I was in high school. Iโd make my brothers food after theyโd come in from snowboarding. It was always so fun seeing them enjoy something I made!
Aside from family being home, and the busyness of the season, there isnโt much else going on. As annoying as this is, itโs really just a whole lot of holiday stuff! Which doesnโt bother me in the least. Iโm that annoying person that really does love all things holiday. Iโve spent the weekend working on this yearโs cookie box, which Iโll be sharing very soon. Iโd hoped to share the box last week, but I just didnโt have time to get it all together. This week though, itโs coming!
I think thatโs about it. Just 12 more nights until Christmas Eve! Hope youโre all slowly starting to settle into the season. Enjoy this weekโs favorites!

q: #1 go-to cocktail?
a: I have soooo many I love. this frosted mistletoe margarita has been a go-to for years. love an old fashion too. and a Moscow mule is a holiday must. I make these ALL the time for my fam.
q: are you going to do a book tour?
a: not positive on how big or what cities weโre going to hit, but yes I do think so!! so excited to do this in person again!
q: does your sister ever get bummed out she canโt taste your fancy drinks?
a: yup! I make her what we call a โChristmas drinkโ, but itโs just the virgin version of whatever drink I made.
q: what are your favorite cleaning products for the kitchen?ย
a: Iโm not big on cleaning products and usually just use water for most things. obviously, dish soap when needed, and hand soap too, of course. I love Grown Alchemist.
q: where did you get those martini glasses in your last story? they are to die for!
a: they are from cb2.
q: good mocktails?
a: for mocktails, just leave the alcohol out of a recipe and replace it with a splash of whatever citrus or fruit juice is being used, then top with sparkling water or ginger beer to give it a little excitement. we love Betty Buzz!
q: do all of your family members come home for the holidays?
a: yes, usually, but this year we have one brother and one cousin with their girlfriends/wifeโs families. next year I think we will have EVERYONE ๐ย
q: do you spend a lot of time bartending at family gatherings?
a: yes. my family is all about a cocktail. itโs why I got into making them. when they walk in the door, itโs drinks and a cheese board all December long over here. or at least once everyone arrives for Christmas (Thanksgiving too). but I donโt mind. I actually making them.
q: how many siblings and what is the age range?
a: 8 kids including me, 6 brothers, 1 sister, and me. Creighton, Trevor, Brendan, Tieghan, Malachi (Kai), Red, Asher, Oslo. ages 32 (I think) to 1.
q: do you make a ton of recipes one day and none the next? whatโs your cooking schedule?
a: I wish I could do it that way, but I canโt test more than 3 recipes a day. right now with the sun setting so early, itโs usually only 1-2 recipes per day depending on the recipe. I only shoot in natural light which greatly limits what I can get done in the winter. by the time I test, photograph, and then film a recipe, the sun is setting before I know it. I often have to pick it up again the next day. in the winter months, I usually cook 6, sometimes 7, days a week (December is always a lot).
q: are you an aunt yet? wasnโt there a baby boy on the way?ย
a: not yet but soon! In February little Bud is coming! But, Iโve mentioned before that 3 of my cousins are pretty much siblings. My cousin Maggie and her husband Tom had Baby Walker on October 10th โ heโs so cute! They will be staying here for two months this winter so youโll be seeing a lot more of him soon!
1. make homemade gingerbread houses โ I need to find a cute one for Asher and I. Or, we might just attempt this on our own.
2. build a snowman โ we actually could use some more snow for this.
3. decorate! โ mostly done, my house is so cozy right now!
4. watch a Christmas movie with Asher โ whatโs your favorite?
5. make hot cocoa and sip by the fire โ weโve already made multiple batches of this.
6. support the charities most important to us โ we do this year-round, but make an effort to do a little more around the holidays.
7. walk to see all the lights โ Iโve done this around our neighborhood, but I need to go see Main Street.ย
8. do one thoughtful thing for someone every day all December long โ love, love love this. December is really the time for giving. I realize more and more, thatโs what makes me happiest. Simple things like sending a candle, sending someone a kind text, making them a meal, or baking cookies for a friend can really brighten someoneโs day.
9. make homemade holiday candles โ Iโve always wanted to do this.
10. find a fun gift for my secret Santa โ this is complete. I got a little something extra too.
Question:ย what is your favorite thing to do in December?

Hi Tiegan
Are you going to do a Christmas book? I would love that with all your recipes, cocktails, edible gifts, home made decs etc. Would be gorgeous and I for one would buy it!! Jo xx
I would, too!
Hey Jo,
I donโt have any plans for a Christmas book at this time, but love the idea! xTieghan
I second this!
Iโve never seen a single episode of SITC either! Iโm just not interested. I so wish we could be out enjoying all the holiday festivities, but weโve all had a monster cold that we just figured out yesterday is probably COVID. Weโve been sick for weeks. So weโre all just blah and trying to comfortably get through the day. This is my absolute favorite time of the year and Iโm just lying on the couch while my kids play video games for 18 hours everyday. ?
Oh no! So sorry to hear this Kristin! I hope you all feel better soon. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Congrats on making the NYT top 10! You are pr well aware butโฆ I was catching up on podcasts this last week & your blog came up in Bobby Flayโs podcast with his daughter, Sophie (Social Media episode 10/19). They both are big fans & it was so great to hear them discuss your site!

Awe thanks so much Jodi! Might have to share soon!!
Iโm still finishing shopping- I donโt understand how I get so behind every year! The holiday season goes by so fast.
Congrats on making the NYT List this week!
The snow looks gorgeous there! We havenโt gotten snow yet in Baltimore, but maybe soon.
Hey Mariah,
Lol, you arenโt alone, the holiday season always flies! Thanks so much for reading along! Hoping for snow for you soon. xTieghan
Congratulations on making the top 10. How exciting and certainly deserved. I love reading your posts, as said below you feel like a friend. I wish you and your family a Very merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year.
Hi Karen,
Thank you so much for reading along and your kind message! Happy Holidays!! xTieghan
Thank you for your great content and your authenticity. I thoroughly enjoy your Insta and your blog, and often make your recipes. Also appreciate you including many veggie options and that most of your dishes can be adapted to a veggie version. Blessings to you and your family! Maria
Hey Maria,
Thanks so much for reading and following along! I appreciate you being here! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan!
When you wrote about doing something kind each each day and how December is a month of giving it made me want to write a note of thank you to you.
My mom suddenly died shortly after I started college so when I graduated, moved out on my own and starting cooking for myself it was challenging without having someone to call for advice, help etc.
Fast forward to now, I came across your cookbooks a few years ago and they have truly helped me fall in love with cooking. They were the first collection of recipes I really thought were simple, fun and honestly always a โwinnerโ. I make one of your recipes for my husband and I almost every night and I read your blog almost every day. Our family also loves your recipes whenever I make them for the holidays. Last night we even had a date night at home with the sausage and arugula pizza from your first cookbook and it was 10/10!
I know you said what a busy time it has been lately. December can be filled with so much to do but thank you for all you do here and what you do to help others like me who are trying to cook for our families and have a little fun in the process.
Iโm really grateful. I hope to see you on your upcoming tour and I canโt wait to see the new cookbook.
Hey Danielle,
Awe, thank you so much for your extremely kind message. I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I love to hear that you have been enjoying the recipes, and truly appreciate you making them and sharing with your family. Thanks for being here and following along! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Please share your receipe for copycat Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches!!!
Will add to the list Amy!
Always love reading these. Thanks for sharing your life with us- you feel like a friend!
So hard to believe that Christmas is only 12 days away. I did all my shopping online, but would like to visit a few shops just for the hustle and bustle. Then on to the baking! Really excited to try some new sweets this year- definitely fitting in the samoas pretzel presents and vanilla gingerbread latte. Love to see all the fun and new recipes you come up with this time of year! Canโt wait to see the cookie boxes!
Hi Hannah,
Thanks a bunch for reading along! Right?! I canโt believe we are so slow to Christmas, seems as though this time of year always flies by. Let me know what treats you make, I hope you love them all! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Youโve had some snow, yay. It looks so pretty. Please keep posting some snowy pics, I love them.
I nearly have all of my holiday shopping done and now that Iโm back to working from home for a while, I will be heading to the post office in the next day or so to post the last of my cards and gifts.
Two weeks to finish decorating cakes and getting ready for Christmas sounds fine, however when you said 12 days, I am now thinking, oh heck I need more time haha. It will be fine though.
I have pinned National Lampoonโs Christmas Vacation to watch, however I may only get around to watching it on Christmas Eve, but thatโs fine.
I am thinking of prepping some cinnamon buns for Christmas, can I put them in the freezer and then defrost and bake them when weโre ready to eat them?
Have a great week.
Oh and I forgot to say congratulations on making it into the NYT top 10, very well deserved.
Thanks so much Colleen!!
Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for reading! Of course, will definitely continue to share the snowy pics. Good for you with the holiday shopping, I bet it feels great to have it all done! We love Christmas Vacation as well! Yes, you can definitely pop the cinnamon buns in the freezer, you could also just keep in the fridge overnight. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
