Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

(our newest little edition)

Welcome to the 150th edition of Nine Favorite Things. Not sure how Iโ€™ve written so many of these over the last few years, but I love writing them now more than everโ€ฆthough they now take me much longer to put together than they ever did in the past. When I first started writing these back in 2017 I never would have thought theyโ€™d transform into what they are today. They were originally meant to be a quickie Sunday post that would take you all of maybe fiveโ€ฆten minutes tops, to read. I shared out a few favorite links and maybe a photo or two of Asher. These posts are now full of reading material, products I love, inspiration, recipes, and soooo many links. Basically everything and anything thatโ€™s at the top of my mind and/or inspiring me.

Throughout the week, I focus almost solely on sharing new recipes. But come Sunday, itโ€™s fun to switch things up a bit. I love so much that many of you find these posts interesting and fun to read. These are the posts where I feel like I really get to connect with you guys and itโ€™s such fun!

Question:

Since we are on our 150th Favorites post, Iโ€™d love to know what section of these posts you guys enjoy the most? Anything you donโ€™t care for? Anything youโ€™d love to see more of?

Iโ€™m very excited to share that in addition to continued recipes weโ€™ve been working on a few projects behind the scenes the are focused more on โ€œlifestyleโ€ and being able to better share with you all the things I truly love most. So, thatโ€™s exciting! More to come this fall, but it feels good to feel excited! This time last year we had the anticipation of the HBH Super Simple Cookbook release. This year itโ€™s something a little different!

And on that same note, I just read an email informing me that the holiday seasoning is going to be starting earlier than most years. Apparently, with many of us being a bit more homebound these days, it has everyone already looking ahead to fall and the holiday season. Hmm, Iโ€™m not sure how I feel about that. Itโ€™s exciting and scary. As you guys know Iโ€™m loving summer more than ever this year. Itโ€™s so refreshing to walk outside my door and see flowers, greenery, and feel warmer air. The 7 pm hour is my favorite these days, the sunsets are just too pretty for words.

That said, you all also know how much I love fall. So itโ€™s exciting to me the many of you are already planning your autumn recipes. Those will forever be my favorite recipes to share.

Anyway, Iโ€™m rambling here, moving alongโ€ฆ

I hope you have all had a good week! I jumped back into work after the 4th of July weekend and had a full week, but am really, really making more of a conscious effort to get out and enjoy our very quick Colorado summer. Balance is one of the things I struggle with the most when it comes to running a business. But Iโ€™m taking it day by day and trying my best. Tips and tricks are always welcomed if you have any to share!

Question:

Whatโ€™s happening on your end? What are you all loving most about summer?

Coming up this week on HBHโ€ฆ Weโ€™ll be starting the week off with a fun new Mexican recipe. Weโ€™ll also have a delicious sweet treat, inspired by my grandpa, who will be turning 80 on the 21st! Then on to a savory, fun appetizer/side dish thatโ€™s great for summer days. And weโ€™ll be ending the week with a new summer peach dessert (I hope, itโ€™s not fully perfect just yet, fingers crossed).

And lastly, last Sundayโ€™s Favorites post was never emailed to many of you on our list. So sorry! If you missed it, make sure you give it a read today. That was one of my favorite, favorites posts to put out. So much summer garden inspiration!

If youโ€™re catching up on blog posts from the week, be sure to sign up for our dailyย newsletters. Theyโ€™ll help you to stay up to date with everything thatโ€™s happening here, as well as fun content youโ€™ll only get via email. If youโ€™re meal planning today, donโ€™t forget to check out my menu below (itโ€™s # 9 on the favoriteโ€™s list). You can grab the full grocery list for this weekโ€™s menu in our specialย Sunday newsletter.

4. Favorite questions of the weekโ€ฆ

q: Aย condiment you could never live without?
a: I have to go with hot sauce. But not going to lie, I love ketchup too. And I cook with mustard a ton.

q: How do you typically clean all your cast iron cookware?
a: I really donโ€™t clean it. The best way to care for cast iron is to do almost nothing to it. When Iโ€™m done cooking, I rinse it under warm water and use a scrunch pad if needed to get anything off. Then I just wipe it clean. I try not to use soap much on them as itโ€™s really not needed. The oils from cooking keep the pans seasoned. My @staub_usa cast iron is enamel coated, so I donโ€™t need to re-season it all the time. The enamel coating also means I can cook acid, like tomatoes in my cast iron.

q: Iโ€™m renovating my kitchen. What is your favorite aspect? Or a โ€œmust-doโ€ in mine?
a: You need to have a farmhouse style sink if you can! Doing dishes in a large sink is a game changerโ€ฆand if you need to hide messes quickly itโ€™s pretty great for that too ๐Ÿ™‚ And donโ€™t forget outlets on the island!! Please! We only put in 1 outlet and itโ€™s in the worst spot. Biggest mistake.

q: Whatโ€™s your go-to spice for flavor?
a: I LOVE paprika. Especially smoked. So much flavor and most everyone really enjoys it!

I guess for now iโ€™ll settle for book-marking and adding your
RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to new updates and will talk
about this blog with my Facebook group. Chat soon!

  2. I think you would love watching Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. Our favorite show during this time. Delightful!
Thank you for sharing your life and recipes with the world.

  3. Hey Teighan! love your recipes so inspiring. your posts are always read, really enjoying finding out more about you and your life. i am going to try Easy Sheet tomato herb pizza tonight. looks AMAZING! one questionโ€ฆ i know you live in the mountains unless im wrong, but i was wondering where you get your fresh foods and products as you cant grow everything..
Thanks cant wait to hear more

    1. Hi Roxi! Yes, I do live in the mountains! I try to go to some farmers markets around me in the summer! They have the best freshest produce! Otherwise, I shop at my local grocery store for most of the things I need! xTieghan

  4. I say go for the Hunter boots. I have had my matte black ones for 2 years and wear them more than I ever thought I would. I have worn them in snow, rain, mud and sometimes just to be stylish. I do not regret purchasing them.

  5. The part I love best is your main introduction, about life, food, family, animals, weather, Colorado, whatโ€™s coming up etc xx

  6. Go for it on the Hunter bootsโ€ฆI have two pairs and love love love them! (one a bit more dressy for work and fun and a pair for mukking about in the yard). I did find them at Nordstrom Rack on sale tho..but so worth the price!!

One question Iโ€™ve been wanting to ask you: I make a ton of your recipes (have both your books!) and you use so much thyme. I have it planted, but how do you prep it. It takes forever to get the leaves off the stemsโ€ฆdo you just take the time or do you have a trick. Thanks for all your wisdom and recipes โ€“ my favorite and I share your website with everyone โ€“ especially when they ask where I find all my good recipes!!

    1. Hey Laurie,
Thanks so much for your tips with the Hunter boots, I think you have me sold! As for the thyme, if you hold the stem upside down and slide two fingers down the stem, the leaves should easily come off. I hope this helps! xTieghan

  7. You did it again! Gave me tons of stuff to read and reminders for lots of recipes I want to make. Thank you! And congrats on 150 favorite things posts!

  8. Dear HBH, I love your salmon, squash, pomegranate recipe. We have a cottage in northern Ontario. So grocery stores donโ€™t carry pomegranates.

I substituted raspberries, and the dinner was delicious.

    Thanks for all you do.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing Gloria!! I am really glad you have been enjoying these posts! xTieghan

  9. I love your Sunday posts. I too read them while drinking coffee in the morning. I also read Joy the Bakersโ€™ too, she does such a good job of picking out a small handful of really deep, interesting stories that iโ€™m sure iโ€™d never find on my own. I like your links section the best. LOVE that church condoโ€ฆ wow! One skincare brand iโ€™m getting more into is Youth to the People. Their products are vegan and are really effective for my skin, but one thing i really love is that they are all packaged in glass instead of plastic. I love my giant bottle of cleanser โ€“ lasts forever and i can refill my smaller glass sample size bottles for travel. Iโ€™m going to start replacing some of my other products with their line when I need new items.

    1. Oh thank you so much for sharing!! I will have to check them out and I love that it is in glass! Do you know if they take the bottles back to recycle? I hope you continue to enjoy my posts and recipes, Leanne! xTieghan

  10. I do love seeing your fashion likes, but they are out of my price point; anyway, where would I wear a cute sundress since I pretty much stay at home or go to the grocery store/farmerโ€™s market these days? But itโ€™s fun to fantasize! I like your links for home decor, too. And I like your links for ways to improve the world (Plastic Free July, for example). Nine Favorite Things has become one of my favorite Sunday morning things to do!

    1. Hi Sally! I am so glad you like the dresses, but honestly there are so many places with dresses that may be more in your pricerange. I love urban outfitters, &Other Stories or even target is great! Also, even going on walks is nice to just dress up during this time I feel like! I hope you continue to enjoy my posts and recipes! xTieghan
