Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Happy Sunday guys! Feeling much more upbeat and positive today than I was last Sunday. While I still wake up every morning and say to myself, โ€œIs this really our world? I feel like Iโ€™m living in a movieโ€. Iโ€™ve found my own ways to cope. I did a better job of removing myself from the media this week and really stayed hyper-focused on work. It was nice. Social media can be great, but when consuming it too much, especially with everything being shared right now, it can be overwhelming and stressful. So I made a conscious effort to focus where I need to, and step a little farther back from social mediaโ€ฆ

That said, I also made a huge effort to resume more of the HBH blog and Instagram content that I feel people expect from me (and hopefully look forward to). It felt so nice to be sharing recipes and cooking with you all again. After almost a week off from sharing, it really made me realize how much I love this community we have, and how much I really do LOVE sharing my recipes (and life) with you guys. I know I say this all the time, but sharing here in this space really does feel like sharing with family!

Anyway, it was a better week and Iโ€™m excited to tackle the new week ahead! Iโ€™m in the kitchen testing and photographing new recipes all of this week in prep for our family vacation the first week of July. My family always does a summer trip, and always somewhere tropicalโ€ฆbecause in the winter itโ€™s all-mountain towns!. In previous years weโ€™ve gone to places in Mexico and Costa Rica, but with COVID, weโ€™re staying in the US and heading to Key West. Are any of you planning any summer trips within the U.S? I know some families are planning smaller trips and others are just staying put at home.

Coming up this week on HBHโ€ฆlots of summery recipes! Sharing a new 15-minute pasta, a berry-filled buttery treat, the simplest skillet chicken dinner, a fun scallop recipe, and the perfect Fatherโ€™s Day brunch dish. Saturdayโ€™s cocktail post is still up in the air. Do you need a new cocktail for Fatherโ€™s Day weekend? Do you have suggestions on what type of cocktail youโ€™re looking for? Let me know!

And this weekโ€™s personal favorite recipe? Giant. Salted. Espresso. Hot. Fudge. Cookies. YUMM!

Question: What was your favorite recipe that I shared this past week?

If youโ€™re catching up on blog posts from the week, be sure to sign up for our dailyย newsletters. Have a great Sunday guys! If youโ€™re looking for something fun to makeโ€ฆmy blackberry lavender naked cake is always a Sunday favorite.

4. Favorite questions of the weekโ€ฆ

q: Whoโ€™s your biggest food/cooking inspiration? Love your recipes so much Tieghan!!
a: My biggest sources of inspiration are my family, the seasons, and exploring different food cultures. Honestly, I just go back and forth with my family (mainly my sister in law, Lyndsie) on ideas. They are really my biggest source of inspiration and are always steering me in new directions. I also LOVE deep-diving into different countryโ€™s foods. Very excited to explore some Puerto Rican and Spanish food this week.

q: What do you enjoy more, cooking savory recipes or baking sweet recipes?
a: It depends on my mood and what season it is! Currently, Iโ€™m loving baking with all the summer produce. So much color. I also love baking in the fall because itโ€™s โ€œcozyโ€. And then cooking savory recipes I almost always love. So itโ€™s kind of equal. I canโ€™t say I love one more than the other. It just depends on the day!

q: Will you do a post on all your favorite cookware, bakeware, and other kitchen items?ย ย
a: I would, but I honestly keep it so simple. Staub skillets and cocottes are my go-to when it comes to cookware. My stand mixer, food processor, and blender are my top used countertop appliances. I bake with USA baking pans and either glass Pyrex dishes or ceramic bakers (a lot from Staub or Williams-Sonoma). Oh, and I have been using my cookie scoop all the time (and just order two additional sizes).

q: Favorite blueberry recipe? I picked about 5 pounds today!!
a: Blueberry picking! That sounds amazing. I am jealous! A few of my favorites are these blueberry thyme tarts, this simple blueberry burnt basque cheesecake, my blueberry lemon layer cake, blueberry lemon thyme cake, and this blueberry smash. Oh, and my blueberry chamomile galette too!

  1. My favorite summer movie is Sandlotโ€ฆ. no matter how old I get, it will always be my go to summer movie.

  2. I will be so excited to see what Key West inspires you to make!! So much fun! We are taking a family trip too, going up to Flathead Lake, MT. It is SO pretty and one of my favorite placesโ€ฆโ€ฆalso, give me ALL the huckleberries! Have a safe and fun trip!!

  3. I always look forward to your Sunday posts because they are so inspiring and positive!
If you need to turn a guilty pleasure on in the background, I recommend Pretty Little Liars. Itโ€™s exactly that- a fun, guilty pleasure. FYI parts of it is mature if Miss Asher is around : )
Thanks for another great week of posts!

  4. Hi!
Always think of commenting, never do till you mentioned Key West! Long time reader and absolutely have been LIVING for your Sunday posts. I have lived in southwest Florida for the past 10 years and make a yearly trip down to the keys in July. It will be HOT but rent bikes, eat and drink?
    1. Cuban coffee Queen for coffee
    2. Goldmans Deli-best bagels outside of New York! Like take 12 home to freeze.
    3. Bien on Eaton street. Get the street cornโ€ฆor 2. The onions have their own sandwiche which says it all!
    4. Eaton street seafood. Lobster roll. It can and will compete with one from Maine dont care who will argue ?
    5. Garbos Grill- food truck tacos and chill spot to just relax.
    6. Waterfront breweryโ€ฆ..beer and get the shrimp risotto so unexpected but ate twice last trip.
Soooo many others but this is my musts on all trips.

Have a great time and enjoy tour family!

    Adrienne

    1. Thank you so much Adrienne!! I am so glad you provided all of these recommendations! I cannot wait to check out all of these places! xTieghan

  5. Boll and Branch sheets are Awesomeness!!! As far as movies go โ€“ anything with Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Matthew McConaughey, and Matt Damon. I love reading your blog newsletters and especially this one on Sunday for all the inspiration.

  6. Skip the shell sandals. The cost is outrageous for a shoe that will probably only last one season. There are a ton of really darling shoes with shells that are significantly cheaper. But on the other hand, if they speak to you and you just have to have themโ€“well, why not!

  7. No no no on the rugs! I wouldnโ€™t normally offer feedback or judgement on such things but you askedโ€ฆ. I almost feel bad offering my thoughts here because they are a bit judgey feeling, but there has to be better ways for you to spend money and yes, even still splurge a little. Rugs get stained (if you have pets, they are a target for accidents i swear!), go out of fashion, etc. You could spend $1500 on a still great rug and spend the rest of that money on a nice vacation (in the future), investmentsโ€ฆ so many things. Of course I donโ€™t know your financial situation but Iโ€™d challenge you to find a cheaper copycat. That said, its your money and only you know what will bring you joy and where your priorities are, and thereโ€™s nothing wrong with that! The above comments are based on me, not you.

Looking forward to seeing some puerto rican influenced recipes from you! We donโ€™t have much of a PR influence up here in Canada so iโ€™m not super familiar with the food and culture. It can be hard to find ingredients from some cultures up here, particularly those that arenโ€™t largely represented in the population (I live outside of a major centre) but thereโ€™s always online shopping i suppose. I just bought a cookbook on turkish mezze dishes and am excited to experiment with those after a fabulous mezze restaurant opened up in a nearby community last year. Every dish they serve is incredible! We really do live in such an amazing time if we choose to look for all of the wonderful resources out there from around the world and be open to new tastes, influences and voices.

    1. Hi Leanne! Thank you so much for the feedback! It really is a great idea to save that and I have been seeing amazing rugs that are not as expensive! Do you have any recommendations on good shops for one also?

I am glad you are excited for the new recipes! Hopefully I can source some ingredients that are accessible to everyone! xTieghan

  8. Absolutely love your Sunday post โ€“ give myself lots of time to read it all! Iโ€™m going to investigate a number of the books I was looking at in a couple of the articles you shared. Donโ€™t know what your thoughts are on musical movies โ€“ watched so many with my mom & sister growing up so they are very nostalgic for me but I think worth checking outโ€ฆ Sound of Music; Oklahoma; South Pacific; Music Man; My Fair Lady, Camelotโ€ฆ Yeah, perhaps they feel like they are from โ€œanother eraโ€ but they touch on subjects that are still very relevant. Others โ€“ Field of Dreams; Tin Cup; Bull Durham; Grosse Point Blank; ANY Marvel movie (yeah thatโ€™s quite a switch from other titles but who doesnโ€™t love a good action movie!!). Also enjoy the Mission Impossible movies โ€“ total action & escapism! : ). Thanks so much for all your posts, recipes & Instagram films!!
