Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Happy Memorial Day weekend! This yearโs Memorial day is a little different from years past. But Iโm hoping you are all finding ways to celebrate the unofficial start of summer. And of course, those who have served our country. My family made the decision to venture out for the first time in three months. They drove to Moab, which is about a four-hour drive from where we are in Colorado, to camp and hike the area. Itโs the perfect weekend activity to do, while still social distancing from others. This mini-trip is a much-needed change of scenery for them, my mom especially.
As for me? Iโm here in Colorado with the goats and chickens. I had a LIVE cooking class Saturday night on Zoom for a virtual retreat in support of World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization feeding those most impacted by COVID-19. The Retreat was hosted by Free People and Who What Wear. I cooked alongside the co-founder of Who What Wear, Hillary Kerr (also the host of The Second Life podcast that I love so much). Hillary and I did an hour-long โcooking classโ where we created my Crispy Lemon Feta with Spiced Chickpeas. It was so much fun. Iโve done plenty of Instagram LIVEโs at this point, but never a LIVE cooking class on Zoom. Oh how times are changing.
Iโm planting myself back in the kitchen today, photographing new recipes for HBH, and prepping to film new recipe videos with my brother, Malachi. Itโs been a while since weโve filmed new videos. Weโre keeping very busy over here, but really I wouldnโt have it any other way. Iโve been having so much fun with you guys these past few months. Itโs exciting to see how much everyone seems to be enjoying cooking and baking right now. With summer days ahead of us, Iโm planning more simple recipes that will be great for grilling out and using up all the wonderful garden produceโฆboth savory and sweet!
So whatโs everyone up to the rest of the weekendโฆcooking, baking? Is there anything youโre excited about?
Coming up this week on HBH, we have a special recipe on Monday thatโs something sweet and perfect for a last-minute Memorial Day dessert. Tuesdayโs recipe marks the start of early summer produce. Weโll also be sharing a new pizza recipe, a quick-cooking shrimp dinner (thatโs so delicious), and a new instant pot recipe thatโs sure to be a summer staple. And of course, on Friday weโll have something sweetโฆwith blueberriesโฆthat I am so excited to share! Oh, and a new cocktail on Saturday. Whatโs your guess? Do you think it will be a Harry Potter Cocktail or just something fun for summer?
If youโre catching up on blog posts from the week, be sure to sign up for our dailyย newsletters. Theyโll help you to stay up to date with everything thatโs happening here, as well as fun content youโll only get via email. And of course, if youโre meal planning today, donโt forget to check out my menu below (itโs # 9 on the favoriteโs list). You can grab the full grocery list for this weekโs menu in our special Sunday newsletter.
Lastly, I want to take a minute to thank all those who have served our country. To remember those who have given their lives in their fight for a better life for us all. I hope you all take some time out tomorrow to thank those who bravely risk their lives daily to serve our country.

One of the questions Iโm asked most is what my favorite skillet is, and or what food processor I use. As crazy as it is, I donโt yet have a blog post dedicated to my most-used kitchen items. So Iโm going to share the ones I use weekly below. When it comes to kitchen tools and appliances, I keep things pretty simple and basic. A good knife, a skillet, and recently my food processor, are all my most used items.
Here are some othersโฆ

Hard to believe this is the last week of May, but with Memorial Day upon usโฆsummer is basically here. When it comes to summer recipes, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what you guys love and might want to see. But as always, I love hearing what you all would love to see the most.
In particular, what recipes are you looking for this June? Comment below and leave all your suggestions!

q: Whatโs the background of your name? Super Unusual! Just curious!ย
a: So, my mom loves unusual names and searched and searched through baby name books before naming any of her kids. Tieghan is Celtic in origin, as are most of our names. It means โBeautiful oneโ. My mom first heard the name when she was pregnant with my brother Trevor (#2) and really loved it. I am number four, and the first (and only) girl until little Miss Asher (#7). The most common way to spell the name is Tegan, but my mom loved the more Irish/Gaelic gh spelling. She also wanted people to pronounce it properly so she spelled it Tieghan. I actually love that she spelled it so uniquely! No one has the same spellingโฆat least that I know of at least.
q: What kind of cutting board do you have? Whatโs the brand?
a: My favorite one is this one by Zwilling and itโs almost always on my counter when Iโm cooking. I love it!
q: How did you get all these followers? Like how many years did it take to grow HBH?
a: This is a repeat question I get all the time, so I figure Iโll just answer it best I can. The HBH family didnโt just grow overnight. Itโs been almost 10 years of working every last day on HBHโฆand thatโs really not an exaggeration. Itโs a combination of hard work, consistency, connecting with you all, and truly loving what I do. I put my all into everything I do. Our growth has been very gradual and organic! You need to give growth time and you need to put in the effort. Thatโs my take anyway! Nothing truly amazing happens overnight. I meanโฆnot usually anyway ??โโ๏ธ

I am so glad you enjoy these posts! Thank you Missi! xTieghan
You are my friends and my favorite! Weโre all always sharing new recipes from you. For summer and during all of this covid chaos Iโve definitely been trying to get in recipes with lots of fruits and veggies. It could be fun to see smoothies or salads with less meat. No matter what your stuff is so great and i canโt wait to see what else you and the hbh team dream up.
Aw you are too sweet! I hope you continue to enjoy my blog and recipes, Donna! Thank you! xTieghan
Hey Tieghan,
Firstly, let me say that Greek Chicken Chopped Salad looks amazing!! Secondly, that Pina Colada looks heaven in a glass very well done!! Lately, I find myself wanting to mix things up. I am looking for new dishes to cook trying to think outside the box. Do you enjoy making seafood and whatโs your favorite protein to use?? Iโd love some more recipes anything to do with fish. I never seem to go tired of eating it. Also, with the summer produce season around the corner Iโll say peaches peaches and more peaches. It seems endless what you can do with them you agree?? Lastly, I had a friend who this weekend who got a farm box and she got scallops. When she asked for recipe ideas where else do I go then your blog for wonderful ideas. You are the most inspiring chef I follow and your food is simply top notch and amazing!! ๐
Hi Mike! I am so glad you like the chopped salad! I hope you try it! Also, I love cooking salmonโฆ definitely one of my favorites and have so many recipes for it! Also, peaches are the best!! They really are so versatile! Thank you for referring my blog to her, that is so amazing to hear! I hope you have an amazing week! xTieghan
Been loving the blog and just getting into reading these 9 favorite things. Looking forward to summer recipes!
Iโve also been loving the instagram story recipe tutorials, I always check to see if a recipe Iโm making has a tutorial and like to watch before I make. it looks like instagram only keeps a limited number, would be really cool if they were preserved forever in the recipe page here on the blog. Either way, Iโll enjoy them while I can! So impressed with this site!
Aw thank you so much Ashley! I hope you continue to enjoy my blog and recipes! xTieghan
I loved the part about your name! Our children all have Celtic/Irish names. Our daughter, Tierney, once said to me โmom, thank you for giving me such a unique name. I love it!โ
Also-if you like spicy cocktails try Ancho-Reyes liquor. Itโs made from spicy peppers! I shake with mezcal, guava juice, fresh squeezed lime juice. Add sliced jalapeรฑo for even more of a kick!
Aw that is so sweet! I will definitely try! Thank you for the suggestion! xTieghan
In this very odd time I just wanted to say thank-you. I know a lot of folks do and I wanted to add my voice. I am retired and last year we moved to our retirement home in northern Arizona. During this โstay at homeโ time I decided to try cocktails. I already make many of your recipes (especially salads!) and have saved a number the cocktail recipes thinking I would them at some point. This is that point. Our favorite so far? Gingered Peach Bourbon Thyme Smash. My husband is a whisky connoisseur and we have a lot of very good bourbon around. Me, I donโt much care for any kind of whiskeyโฆ..however, I have found whiskey drinks, particularly bourbon, are fabulous! Your drinks recipes have inspired me so much that I have acquired more barware and will be starting an herb garden (I am a terrible gardenerโฆso hoping for the best). Thank-you again for your thoughtful and tasty recipes โ not had a fail yet!
Hi Nancy! Wow that is so great to hear! I love that you are getting into cocktails and I hope you continue to love the recipes I create! Thank you! xTieghan
We made your salmon with the corn/tomato/avocado salad this week and it was delicious! Love your recipes!
Thank you so much Cassie! That is so great to hear! xTieghan
