Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

As I write this the snow is falling and itโs the coziest night at home. My Little Market candle (love these candles) is burning and all is good. Usually January is a pretty boring month, but this year itโs been good! Iโve really enjoyed having time at home after the busiest end to 2019. I had a little time to catch up. Though Iโm not really caught upโฆjust not as behindโฆwhich of course is an improvement! I began planning some spring HBH Super Simple cookbook events. And also got to do some brainstorming for the upcoming yearโฆactuallyโฆeven the years ahead.
After spending some time filming new videos last week, I was able to work on some HBH recipe testing this week. So many Instagram stories were filmed this week (you all seem to love when I demo recipes, what should I make next?). I also began prepping for a quick trip to LA that Iโm supposed to leave for on Wednesday. I say supposed to, because at this point thereโs a lot up in the air and Iโm not positive itโs actually happening. We shall see. Stay tuned!
In some family-related news, my younger brother Red placed second in the LAAX Open this week in Switzerland. He wasnโt planning on competing there but was persuaded to go at the last minute. It ended up being a great way to kick off his competition season. And especially good practice for the upcoming 2020 X-Games in Aspen, which begin on Thursday. Every time I watch Red snowboard Iโm more in awe of his abilities. Iโve said this before, but itโs really fun to watch him grow. Heโs come such a long way from two years ago when he first qualified for the Olympics. Whatโs even crazier is that this February 11th it will have been two years since Red won his Olympic gold medal! Should I do a little trip down memory lane in an upcoming favoriteโs post with photos?
Coming up this week on HBH, Iโll be sharing the first pasta recipe of 2020 (itโs a lightened-up pasta). Tuesdayโs post is still up in the air but it will likely be something with citrus. On Wednesday weโll move onto my very favorite soup (so excited to share). Then a super simple sheet pan dinner on Thursday. And the sweetest, healthier chocolate dessert on Friday.
Lastly, if youโre catching up on blog posts from the week, be sure to sign up for our dailyย newsletters. Theyโll help you to stay up to date with everything thatโs happening here, as well as fun content youโll only get via email. And of course, if youโre meal planning today, donโt forget to check out my menu below (itโs #9 on the favoriteโs list).
Hope you enjoy this weekโs Nine Favorite Things!
I love setting goals and I have so many things Iโd love to accomplish this year, but they are big picture goals that I will be working on throughout the year. I may not see them all come to fruition in 2020. And that is OK.
I recently read a post about setting weekly goals and found that not only did it make so much sense, it felt doable, exciting, and especially motivational too. Weekly goals feel so much less daunting and I love the idea of coming to the end of the week with three sold goals checked off my list. It almost feels like a game and the competitive side of me comes out a bitโฆbut itโs with myself. Weekly goals challenge me to hold myself accountable and I kind of love that. For more on this topic, read Emilyโs post on Cupcakes and Cashmere. I found it so inspiring that Iโm going to try to plan weekly goals every Sunday!
My Goals For the Week:
1. go to be 20 minutes earlier every nightโฆbaby steps, but I have to be realistic.
2. do a studio barn tour on IG storiesโฆeven though itโs not done โ nor perfect (because everyone is asking).
3. finish packing up clothes for goodwillโฆtrying to tidy up my home and get rid of clutter.
Question: Iโd especially love to hear what you guys think of setting weekly goals. Anyone else love this idea too? What are your goals for the week?

Here is what I am dying to refresh my home with this season.
q: So many questions about your process! How do you brainstorm or get ideas for new recipes?
a: I usually sit down once a month and write out a list of recipes I think I might want to create. If Iโm really excited about them Iโll add them to the content calendar which I keep on google calendar just so I have an idea of what the month ahead looks like. Iโd say only about half of those recipes actually get tested. I just keep adding to this list over time, dividing it out by season, holidays, etc. Itโs honestly not very organized, but thatโs what I do. I also try to write down every single idea I have right away or Iโll forget it. I use the notes app on my phone a lot.
My very best source of recipe inspiration is my family. There are so many of us. My brothers always send me photos of the dishes theyโve loved from all over the world. They also text me all the time saying you should make this or you should make that. Same goes with friends + cousins. And then, of course, there are the seasons themselves, which are a major source of inspiration to me. Iโm always trying to cook for the time of year. Itโs what I love mostโฆwhich is why cookbooks are actually super challenging for me!
q: Do you always prep all of your ingredients and put them in small bowls before you start?
a: Haha. No way! I only do this when Iโm showing you all how to make a recipe. You guys seem to enjoy the flat layout of ingredients. So I try to do this when prepping for stories. When Iโm testing recipes and photographing themโฆitโs a full-on mess.
q: Does your income come primarily from your blog, your book, or etc.?
a: Itโs a mix of everything we work on. The blog, sponsored content, ads, books, long term projects. So much happens behind the scenes. Itโs not just what you see on Instagram!

Hi!! I think a trip down memory lane to celebrate the GOLD would be excellent! How about some fun Korean inspired recipes that week? My family has been loving the Coconut Butter Chicken meatballs and the Coq au Vin meatball recipes. I so appreciate the effort you put in to provide fast and delicious meals! It makes my menu planning so much easier as well when I know I have several 30 minute meals for the week (I work full time and have two teenage boys to feed!). Hope you are having an amazing day!
Ooo yes!! Also, I am so glad you enjoyed those two recipes, Dannell! Thank you for trying them! xTieghan
Love your Nine Favorite Things posts! Doing a recap of the olympics would be SO cool to see, so I think you should do that! Also, I like hearing about your goals especially from an aspect of someone who works from home and makes their own schedule.
Love what youโre doing! Keep it up ๐
Thank you so much Anj! xTieghan
I made your one skillet creamy sun dried tomato/chicken/orzo on Saturday evening and your Persian inspired herb and beef stew w/rice on Sunday evening! What a great weekend of spectacular food! Thank you for sharing. I seem to be working my way through all of your recipes and having such fun doing so!
Wow love that! Thank you so much for trying both of those recipes, I am so glad you enjoyed them! Thank you Talia! xTieghan
YES to small goals! I always have a few year long goals I want to reach, but I love having a single weekly goal. Achieving it gives me momentum to keep working towards the big stuff. This week my goal is not use my phone while Iโm laying bed (Iโm embarrassed to even write that), but sometimes theyโre super simple, like making a dentist appointment.
Haha yes those are all so important though! Also, I love that you are not using your phone in bed.. so good! Thank you! xTieghan
Hi!
I know oyu posted on your insta story how you make rice, but I lost it! Can you please tell me/us how you make it?
Thanks so much!
Ann
Hey Ann, see below!
Bring 3 cups water to a boil. Add 1/2 cups jasmine or basmati rice. Place the lid on the pot and turn the heat down to the lowest setting possible. Allow the rice to cook 10 minutes on low and then turn the heat off completely. Let the rice sit, covered, for another 15 minutes (donโt take any peeks inside!). Fluff the rice with a fork.
Love the idea of weekly goals. This seems much more attainable than life goals. Thanks for sharing. I will make a point to read the linked article.
Thank you so much Amy! xTieghan
I truly love the seasons too. How about your next book is โHalf Baked Harvest: Seasonsโ ?
It would have recipes, decor ideas, tablescapes, gorgeous Tieghan photos, and all manner of seasonal inspirations. Holidays, weather-inspired things like barbecues, and maybe some ideas for menus and get-togethers. Email me for brainstorming. : )
Ooo that does sound so nice!! Thank you so much for the suggestion, Julie! xTieghan
My nieceโs daughter was(still is) in Switzerland at the Junior Olympics in SkiMo!
Wow!! Congratulations to her!! That sounds like an amazing accomplishment! xTieghan
