30 Minute Chili Honey Garlic Salmon Bowls. Crispy salmon tossed in a spicy-sweet honey garlic sauce. Serve this dish with asparagus, broccoli, or a combination cooked up right alongside the salmon. It’s the easiest sheet pan dinner. Add a side of rice and a creamy special sauce. This tasty family dinner is great any night of the week and can be made in under an hour!

I love creating bowl-style recipes – ideally served over rice! I have countless recipes ending with the word bowl on this site. They truly are some of our family favorites.

This salmon included.

I made this a few weeks ago, and while I can’t remember exactly what inspired it, I knew I made it with my dad and Oslo in mind. They love spicy salmon (and tuna – Oslo’s favorite!). They don’t often get served fish at home, so I was feeling excited to share this!

When my family comes home from travel or we have out-of-town guests, I love to make dishes that I know they’ll love and get comfort from eating.

Travel always takes a toll. Nothing is more welcoming than a great home-cooked meal! This was the perfect thing to serve after a week of being away. Everyone loved it, especially Dad and my little 4 year old old brother, Oslo!

Steps

Step 1: cook the salmon and broccoli

I like to use cubes of salmon fillets. You can choose to leave the skin on or off the salmon, but I find the fish has better flavor when roasted with the skin on. Toss the salmon with ginger, chipotle powder, and chile flakes. I love to use Korean chile flakes.

You can find them online, at Whole Foods, and in most major grocery stores in the Asian aisle. I use the Mother in Law’s Brand.

Step 2: add the broccoli and/or asparagus

On the opposite side of the salmon, toss the broccoli and/or asparagus with oil or butter, salt, and pepper.

Now, roast everything at the same time until the salmon is cooked to your liking.

Step 3: the honey sauce

Mix the tamari (or soy sauce) with the honey. Then add fresh garlic, or use garlic powder, chili paste, green onions, and a drizzle of toasted sesame oil.

Step 4: the spicy creamy sauce

Just 3 ingredients: mayo, chili paste, and honey.

I usually add a pinch of salt too. Or you can add tamari.

Step 5: toss in sauce

Pour the sauce over the salmon, then return the pan to the oven and cook another few minutes until that sauce really sticks!

Step 6: serve with rice

I make a pot of coconut garlic rice.

It’s so delish!

The Chili Paste

I use gochujang, a Korean chili paste. This really provides that extra flavor. Again, the Mother in Law’s brand is my favorite. I get the original flavor from Whole Foods or order it on Amazon.

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 450° F. Rub a sheet pan with oil.
    2. On the sheet pan, mix the salmon, 1/2 teaspoon ginger, the chipotle powder, and chile flakes. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, tossing to coat. Arrange the salmon to one side of the sheet pan. Add the broccoli/asparagus to the other side. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the salmon is cooked to your liking.
    3. To make the sauce. In a bowl or glass jar, combine all ingredients.
    4. For the spicy creamy sauce, combine all ingredients.
    5. Remove the vegetables from the sheet pan. Then, pour the honey garlic sauce over the salmon and toss it up in the sauce. Bake for another 5 minutes until the sauce is baked onto the salmon.
    5. Serve the salmon, vegetables, and honey garlic sauce with avocado wedges, green onions, and toasted sesame seeds. I love this over coconut rice.

  1. My daughter is not a fan of spicy food. I am wondering if Gochujang sauce is milder than chili paste or about the same? Would there be any other flavorful Asian ingredient/condiment I could use as a substitution? We love all your salmon bowls. Thank you so much.

    1. Hey Alicia,
I would say they are about the same spice level. You could certainly reduce it, I would just use 1-2 tablespoons. I hope this helps! xx

  2. Hiya!
this may be very pedantic but…you mention chilli paste in part of the recipe and Gochujang in another…same same?
    Thank you!

Made this tonight for my family including 2 teenage boys and we all LOVED it! It was so easy, looked like an elevated dish and was extremely tasty. The boys said to add this dish to the rotation! Thanks for a winner!

Excellent! I didn’t have avocados and my hubby doesn’t like mayo – even without those extras, it was wonderful! Easy and flavorful. Will definitely make again.

Yet another incredible recipe by Tieghan!! My husband and I are recent empty nesters and have enjoyed making a lot of the recipes from Half-Baked Harvest! This one is a keeper. It was easy to make with ingredients we had (mostly) on hand. I made mine with broccolini and my husband’s with tri-colored carrots and red peppers since he’s not a fan of broccoli. We topped it with the mayo sauce, black sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and diced avocado. We did not make rice but wish we would have! we’re old and trying to watch the carbs 😉

    1. Hey Christina,
Fantastic! I appreciate you trying this recipe, I’m so glad it turned out nicely for you! xx

      1. The recipe calls for chili paste in the sauce but when I click on the link it takes me to curry paste. Which one should I use?

        1. Hi Kate,
So sorry about that, you will want to use chili paste for this recipe. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xx

    1. Hey Caroline,
Yay! Love to hear this:) Thank you so much for making this recipe and your comment! Have the best day!!

  6. I would like to make this. Do you have a recipe for Coconut Garlic Rice? I searched your website and couldn’t find one. I am illiterate in the kitchen, so if possible, please provide measurements and times. Thank you!

      1. Thank you so much, Tieghan! Are these vegetarian? All three contain meat. I was also hoping for pasta in particular, not ethnic noodles. Thank you anyway! I appreciate it!

  7. Hi Tieghan, thanks for this recipe. My dad loves salmon (he’s a fisherman) and he’s going to love the spiced-up, crispy salmon. The spicy sauce at the end will be great to cover up any salmon taste that someone might not like, as well…so win, win! Also, thanks for the hockey romance suggestions! Keep ‘em coming, as a girl has to do something between recipes!

  8. Hello! Although I love your recipes, I can’t have spicy food and it seems most of your recipes are spicy. Any way you can also include directions for Non-spicy food in your recipes? Lets start with this salmon recipe

    1. Thanks so much, Katherine! While I understand your request, some of the recipes I make wouldn’t be the same without the spice, requiring me to make an entirely different dish. For this recipe, you could omit the cayenne and chili flakes, reduce the chili paste to 1 tablespoon, and use just a touch of gochujang for the spicy creamy sauce. I hope this helps! Please let me know if there are any other dishes that you need help with:) xx
