Guys, we have serious, serious things to chat about today.

Number one is obviously these carnitas. These extra special, super delicious slow roasted pork carnitas.
And two? Well two is about what’s been on my mind recently. Let’s start with two, and then we’ll move on to the carnitas. Promise, I will try not to write a novel…
So lately I’ve been I wanting to do more with the blog. I need a little more of a challenge, something new, something different, and I feel like the blog needs a little update. I’d like you to let me know what you’d like to see more of on HBH. Is it super easy recipes? More quick how-to videos? Longer videos… where I talk and talk and talk? Do you like hearing all about my life and what’s happening behind the scenes? Or would you prefer for me to simply stick to content? How about some lifestyle posts? Would you be into fashion inspired posts? If so, what areas? I really want to know what you’d love to see me share? I want to go there, to add something new and fun and fresh and different! So please… give me your thoughts, ideas, comments… I want to hear them all!
PS. the fashion thing?? Anyone? You know my whole life I thought I was going to work in the fashion industry, but then my move to LA happened and I kind of freaked, and then this blog happened. Now I only buy dishes and surfaces, and only wear Lululemon tights and sweatshirts smeared with chocolate all day long…I wouldn’t mind bringing a little fashion back into my world. Would you guys be into it? My favorite trends? My wish list? Maybe some go-to working girl outfits? Maybe only as a monthly thing, or maybe more? Thoughts?!?!
PSS. What about entertaining posts!?! I’m really into these. Like dinner parties, summer get-togethers, cocktails… Would you be interested in seeing more of these types of posts?

OKok, and now let’s chat carnitas!!!
The pork gets slow cooked for two to three hours and when it’s finished, it literally just falls apart. The shredded meat makes for the most epic round of tacos, complete with all the toppings. The meat just melts in your mouth and the flavor is insane.
Like nothing better.
Also, while this meat is great for tacos, it’s also great for burrito bowls, nachos, pizza, quesadillas, sandwiches, ext…the options here are endless. With this carnita recipe, you really can do no wrong! 🙂
The one must? A side of guacamole and chips.

Ingredients
- 3 pounds pork shoulder cut into 3 inch cubes
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons chipotle chili powder
- kosher salt and pepper
- 1 cup Mexican beer or low sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 2 leaves bay
- juice from 2 limes
- cilantro for serving
Instructions
Classic Slow Roasted On the Stove
- Toss the cubed pork with the garlic powder and chipotle chili powder. Season liberally with salt and pepper.
- Heat a large dutch oven over medium high heat. Sear the pork on all sides. If needed, sear the pork in batches if your dutch oven is not large enough. Reduce the heat low and pour in the beer, orange juice and 1/2 cup water (there should be just enough liquid to cover the sides of the meat). Add the bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours on LOW. After 1 1/2 hours the pork should be falling apart. Remove the lid and continue cooking another 30 minutes. The Coca-Cola will caramelize and the liquid will evaporate almost completely.
- Transfer the pork to a cutting board and shred. Drizzle the carnitas with lime juice. Serve with warm tortillas, avocado and cheese. EAT!
Crockpot
- Toss the cubed pork with the garlic powder and chipotle chili powder. Season liberally with salt and pepper.
- Heat a large dutch oven over medium high heat. Sear the pork on all sides. If needed, sear the pork in batches if your dutch oven is not large enough. Transfer the pork to the bowl of your crockpot. Add the beer, orange juice, 1/2 cup water and the bay leaves. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. During the last hour, remove the lid and allow the liquid to evaporate almost completely.
- Transfer the pork to a cutting board and shred. Serve with warm tortillas, avocado and cheese. EAT!

I mean, obviously. ???

It seems you have been doing the right thing already. Your blog is a popular blog to say the least. I do love to read about your family and watch the videos. Maybe some behind the scenes of dad washing the dishes, mom and other family trying your recipes would be fun. HA!!
Thank you!! Im going to keep doing the usual and hopefully more videos!! Maybe some behind the scenes stuff too! My dad doing dishes!! hahaha!
Thanks Charlotte!
Love your blog! It would be great to always include a few quick and easy (and flavorful) recipes. I too love your photography. It would be even better if you included photos of the different steps of a recipe, instead of just the finished product. I would find that super helpful!
Hi sue!! Thats perfect! I can most definitely do more of this!! Thank you so much for the ideas(:
Hi does this taste sweet? Also I agree, just do you, and less desserts more healthy entrees! Thanks!
Perfect!! just what i like!! Thank Ginny
I love your blog, I watch it everyday and I try to recreate most of your recepies 🙂
I love that you use bold flavors and spicy food.
It there was something more to wish for, I would like more food and starters and less baking.
Just love your spicy food and flavors and I really depend on them for my cooking.
You are the one that got me interested in cooking 🙂
Love your site
WOW!! So awesome that i got you interested into cooking? I can most definitely do more food!! Thank you so much!!
Hi Tieghan,
I never, EVER leave comments on blogs, but this post encouraged me to do so… I look forward to checking out your new recipes almost daily (my obsession with your blog is slightly out of control). Literally everything that I have made is not just good, but an absolute hit, from the apricot walnut pesto and brie stuffed chicken breasts to the Italian chicken chili, I have never once been disappointed! I also love seeing your pictures, you definitely have a knack for taking the most beautiful food pictures. I don’t think that you need to change the blog at all! However, I understand the urge for growth so maybe try something that is not too far outside of what you are already doing. For example, a series that is once per month on entertaining or under 30 minute weeknight recipes or slow cooker Sunday recipes.
Hope this helps! Keep doing what you are doing- you are awesome!
I can’t wait for your cookbook!
HI devon!! wow! thank you!! means so much to me!
I think thats a really cool idea to not branch to far to keep people who are comfortable with what im doing still on the site! So thank you!! And i hope you love the cookbook!
I would love to see entertain/dinner party posts! Recipes that are easy to make for a lot of people – maybe even party menus with suggestions of a few courses that would go well together and with what drinks! Your food is always beautiful and perfect for showing off to other friends!
Hi Vicky ive had quite a few comments saying the same!! So i am going to try and get more of it going!!
Thank you so much (:
I never leave comments on blogs, but I read yours every day. Don’t let your social anxiety dictate what you do. Do what you love and what you’re good at. Food is very clearly it.
Hi, lindsey thanks for commenting!! And thank you(:
I have been following your blog since day one and have enjoyed it so mud. I have tried many of your recipes and have never been disappointed. But strange enough, last Tuesday or Wednesday I thought I might delete the blog, which I receive daily.
Everything was looking the same….pictures, although beautifully taken..all looked the same….plated with large pieces of greenery on top….not appetizing enough for me to make what lies below. I also think lots of hanks of meat while appealing to some, doesn’t aways encourage me to repeat the recipe.
Many eat lighter and I am sure you could hit it out of the ballpark if you shook it up bait…..You are truly talented…time to expand.
LOL–I always think I’m annoying if I leave a message too often.
I so enjoy your blog and and all the adventures you and your family have.
I never have missed reading a blog since I found it a couple of years ago–I even went back and read it from the beginning.
I think you should add any topic that brings joy to your life and it will do well just like the food topics do now.
I don’t know if you can say this anymore–ok this will make me look old but “You Rock” as a blogger.
NO WAY!! you are so not!!
I love seeing your comments!!
Thats the best to hear! I will do exactly that!! Thanks Nancy
I would love to see combo ideas…what happy hour drink would go with those carnitas? What app could I serve with it? Where could I visit to have the best pork carnitas in the world (I love to travel and try new foods)? If this was for a Cinco de Mayo celebration, what would you wear?
These are just ideas though- I think the best part of your blog is the photos of the food. Visuals are the best way to communicate to our generation!
I think those are very fun ideas!! I really want to try and start doing stuff like this so look out in the near future(:
The photos are here to stay soooo thats good!!
Thanks MAry Beth
Dude, I’m sorry you feel like that. Your content is, I swear to you, the best in the blogosphere. I’ve made so many of your recipes. My Pinterest pages are basically an ode to you.
But it always helps to ask for feedback, so here’s mine: slooooow down. You’re pushing out content at an insane rate, and you could definitely ease up. You must be working yourself into the ground.
It would be nice to know which recipes you eat most often from what you make. I like ‘Day in the Life’ style posts too. And the shots from your barn makeover were really cool – what about some interiors-led posts?
And I won’t lie, I have NEVER watched a video that a blogger has posted. I use an RSS feed and often read on my phone or procrastinate at work, so it’s just never the right atmosphere for a video.
My summary: you do you. People will flock to authenticity. Tell us the things that legitimately excite you, what you spend your time doing, and photograph the things you want to eat. xxx
Hi Rebecca, Thank you!! seriously so nice!
This is really helpful feedback!! I think slowing down could seriously help me and i could start including more in every post so this is seriously helpful!! Doing what i have fun doing is so important to me!(:
Thank YOU!!
Tieghan I LOVE your blog. I haven’t been following long because I recently discovered you. Please don’t change a thing. I’ve made numerous recipes that you so lovingly presented and I adored them all. Of all the blogs I religiously follow, yours is the one I look forward to the most for many reasons – delicious recipes, gorgeous pictures of food and scenery and finding out more about your very talented life. Silence doesn’t mean no one is reading – they are all probably running to the kitchen to try and recreate your masterpieces. I prefer to comment after I’ve actually tried the recipe.
Hi Rose!! Thank you so much!! Wow! I’m so happy you like the blog!
I am definitely going to try to keep as true to my content as i can but maybe have some fun with smaller new stuff! Thanks so much!
Hello Tieghan,
I am a native Los Angeleno. I was born and raised in Los Angeles until eventually, my father moved us up to the Central Coast where I lived for many, many years until my husband was transferred to Denver via his employer. So, here I am living in Colorado just like you!
For many years now I have spent whatever spare time I have scouring blogs i.e., food blogs, fashion blogs, entertainment blogs…and as you know, that’s A LOT of blogs!
Anyhow, I am a HUGE fan of your blog yet I too am someone who is guilty of looking at all of your STUNNING photography and reading your observations, stories, and opinions…without so much as contributing a single comment. GUILTY. I rarely subscribe to any blog however I just couldn’t resist subscribing to HBH and my curiosity continues to be piqued when I see HBH in my inbox!
Too often, those of us who do not blog forget how much work is required in order to be a SUCCESSFUL blogger! So…Tieghan, I would like to tell you that for someone so very young, you are leaps and bounds ahead of MOST bloggers out there today.
Consequently, just continue on making beautiful food, taking spectacular photography, and telling us (your fans!) amusing and good humoured stories!
Focus on your successes, all you have accomplished at such a young age, and reward and encourage yourself for your triumphs!
Whatever you decide to do or not do ie., fashion, entertainment, or both, I will remain your fan and I will always pass along the wondrous, marvelous blog that is HBH!
Thank you for all your effort and hard work so that I am able to enjoy HBH.
Here is to you and all that the future holds!
Wow Lauren this is seriously so nice???
Reading that continuing to do what I am already doing is so nice to hear (:
I love knowing that I have your support! Thank you so so much Lauren!
Honestly, I pick your blog over others because I know I’m going to get a new recipe almost everyday and it’s ALWAYS SOOOOOO GOOOOD! I almost only cook what you cook. 🙂 I love reading about your life embedded in the recipes. Saturdays are kinda sad because I don’t start my day off reading your blog. Don’t give up! My cooking would be so boring without your recipes and I CANNOT wait for your book!!
Hi Katie!
HAHA! I love that you read every day and make most of my stuff! So AWESOME!!
Thank you so much for your support!
I love your blog! This isn’t a side project for you it’s your life. You are absolutely the number one site I go to due to the frequency and quality in which you post. I honestly would love to see more behind the scenes content as well, it’s fun. Lifestyle and fashion is great. I’d like to see some pictures on your Instagram of your daily adventures too, I.e goat/Asher shenanigans!
Hey Cassandra!! First of all thank you so much!!
I am totally going to do behind the scenes stuff!
The Instagram is interesting!! I always wonder if people like it when I post personal stuff and not just food! So thank you for that input!!
