Homemade Hoisin Sauce

โ–ข1/4 cup tamari or soy sauce

โ–ข3ย tablespoonsย hoisin sauce

โ–ข2ย tablespoonsย rice vinegar

โ–ข1ย tablespoonย chili paste

โ–ข1ย teaspoonย ground ginger

In a small sauce pot, mix 1/4 cup tamari/soy sauce with 3 tablespoons molasses. 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter, 2 teaspoons hot sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and a pinch of black pepper. Whisk in 1/3 cup of water. Simmer over medium heat until the sauce is smoothed and thickened.ย

Chili Oil

โ–ข3/4ย cupย sesame oil

โ–ข1ย tablespoonย fresh grated ginger

โ–ข2ย clovesย garlic, grated

โ–ข1ย tablespoonย chile sauce

โ–ข1ย teaspoonย paprika

Combine the ginger, garlic, chile sauce, chili flakes, paprika, 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, and honey in a heat proof bowl. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat until it sizzles, 5 minutes. Pour the oil over the spices, stir to combine, then add 2 tablespoons tamari/soy sauce.

Zhug (herby green sauce)

โ–ข1ย teaspoonย ground cumin

โ–ข1/2ย teaspoonย ground turmeric

โ–ข1/3ย cupย extra-virgin olive oil

โ–ข2ย tablespoonsย fresh lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender. Pulse until finely chopped. If the sauce is too thick, add water, 1 tablespoon at a time to thin.

Lemon Tahini:ย Combine 1/2 cup tahini, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon honey, and 1/4 cup water in a blender and blend until smooth. If needed, add water to thin the sauce as desired. Season to taste with salt.

Mango Harissa:ย In a blender, combine 1/2 cup red harissa sauce, 1 cup diced mango, and 1/4 cup pickled jalapeรฑos, blend until smooth.ย

Homemade Barbecue Sauce

โ–ข1 1/4ย cupsย ketchupย preferably organic

โ–ข1ย cupย dark brown sugar

โ–ข1/4ย cupย molasses

โ–ข1/4ย cupย pineapple juiceย or you can sub apple cider vinegar

โ–ข1/4ย cupย water

โ–ข1ย tablespoonย worchestire sauce

โ–ข2 1/2ย teaspoonsย ground mustard

โ–ข2ย teaspoonsย smoked paprika

โ–ข1/2ย teaspoonย garlic powder

โ–ข1/4-1/2ย teaspoonย cayenne pepperย use less if you donโ€™t like the heat

Combine all the ingredients size sauce pot. Bring to a boil and reduce and simmer for five minutes or until all the sugar has dissolved. Serve immediately or cover and store in fridge.

Marinated Olives

In a bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fig preserves, garlic, shallots, lemon zest, basil, thyme, and chili flakes. Add the olives, then add the sun-dried tomatoes with oil and toss to combine. Let sit 30 minutes or up to 5 days in the fridge.

Candied Jalapeรฑos

โ–ข1/3 cup honey

โ–ข1/4ย cup jalapeรฑos

โ–ข2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Bring honey to a gentle boil. Simmer over low for 3-5 minutes.ย Meanwhile, arrange sliced jalapeรฑos in a glass jar. Pour the honey over the jalapeรฑos. Add apple cider vinegar and a pinch of salt. Let cool. Keep stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Homemade Tortilla Chips

โ–ข corn tortillas

โ–ข olive oil

โ–ข sea salt

Cut corn tortillas into triangles. Drizzle in olive oil & bake at 425 for 8-12 minutes

Homemade Taco Shells

โ–ข corn tortillas

โ–ข olive oil

Place tortillas in between a damp paper towel and place in microwave. Warm 8-12 corn tortillas for 30 seconds to 1 minute in the microwave, until pliable. Then place them on top of a sheet pan and rub them with olive oil. Use some tin foil to make a โ€œmoldโ€ for the shell to sit on. Simply mold the foil into a cylinder shape and drape the tortillas over the foil. Bake until crispy, 425ยฐ for 12-15 minutes.

Perfect Rice

Bring 3 cups water to a boil. Add rice. Cover and cook on LOW for 10 minutes. Turn the heat off and let sit, covered another 15 minutes (donโ€™t take any peeks inside!) Fluff with a fork

Coconut Rice: Combine the 1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk and 1/2 cup water in a medium pot. Bring to a low boil. Add 1 cup jasmine rice and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine, cover, then turn the heat down to the lowest setting possible. Allow the rice to cook for 10 minutes on low, then turn the heat off completely. Let the rice sit, covered, for another 15-20 minutes (donโ€™t take any peeks inside!).

Garlic Bread

โ–ข 1 loaf French bread

โ–ข 1 stick of butter

โ–ข 1-2 cloves chopped garlic or 2 teaspoons garlic powder

Cut the loaf length wise. Spread butter mixture over bread, bake at 400 for 10-15 minutes.

Boiled Eggs

Bring 1 inch of water to a boil, add cold eggs from the fridge, cover and boil 5-6 minutes. After 6 minutes, remove the eggs from the pot and place them in an ice water bath or run under cold water. Peel, and enjoy!


Pizza Dough

โ–ข1/2ย cupย warm water

โ–ข1 1/2ย teaspoonsย active dry yeast

โ–ข21/2ย cupย bread flour

โ–ข1/2ย cupย white whole wheat or whole wheat pastry flour

โ–ข1/4ย teaspoonย kosher salt

โ–ขextra virgin olive oil

In a large bowl, combine the water and yeast, stirring to dissolve. Let sit 5 minutes. Add in the bread flour, whole wheat flour, and salt, stirring with a spoon until the dough comes together but is still sticky. On a floured surface, form the dough into a ball. Knead the dough for 5 minutes or until smooth. Alternately, all of the mixing and kneading can also be done in a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment. Rub the same bowl with olive oil, then place the dough inside, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm place for 2-4 hours, until doubled in size. Makes 1lb of pizza dough.

Homemade Graham Crackers

โ–ข 1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) softened salted butter

โ–ข 1/4 cup molasses

โ–ข 1/4 cup honey

โ–ข 1 teaspoon baking soda

โ–ข 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350ยฐ F. In a bowl, cream together 1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) softened salted butter, 1/4 cup molasses, 1/4 cup honey, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until combined, 3-5 minutes. Add 2 1/4 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Beat until combined. Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time, until the dough comes together and forms a ball.

Divide the dough in half. Roll out one disk of dough between two floured pieces of wax paper to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut 24 squares (roughly 2ร—2 inches). Transfer the cookies to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining disk of dough.

Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon sugar over the cookies. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cool.

Brown Butter

โ–ข 2ย sticks (1 cup)ย salted butter, at room temperature

1. Place the butter in a small saucepan set over medium heat, cooking until the butter begins to brown, about 3-4 minutes.

2. Stir as it continues to melt. Once itโ€™s brown, remove from the heat and transfer to a heatproof bowl. Stick in the freezer to chill, 10-15 minutes, but no longer.

Strawberry Vanilla Jam

โ–ข3 cups sliced strawberries

โ–ข1/4 cup honey

โ–ข2 teaspoons lemon juice

โ–ข 1 teaspoon vanilla

Add to a medium-size pot set over high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling use a potato masher or fork to break down and mash the berries. Continue to cook for 5 minutes or until the jam has reduced and thickened by 1/3. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Let cool.

Pumpkin Butter

Slow Cooker Instructions:

1. In the bowl of your slow cooker, combine the pumpkin, cider, maple syrup, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and salt. Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours. During the last 45 minutes of cooking, remove the lid to allow the pumpkin butter to thicken. Taste, adding more maple syrup if needed to sweeten.
2. Turn off the heat and let cool (the pumpkin butter will thicken as it cools). Transfer to glass jars and keep stored in the fridge for up to 1 month or in freezer safe containers for up to 3 months.

Apple Butter

โ–ข4ย poundsย Honeycrisp apples, cored and diced

โ–ข1 1/4ย cupsย apple cider

โ–ข1/2ย cupย real maple syrup

โ–ข1ย teaspoonย vanilla extract

โ–ข2ย teaspoonsย cinnamon or 1-2 cinnamon sticks

โ–ข1/2ย teaspoonย freshly grated nutmeg

โ–ข1ย pinchย ground clovesย (about 1/4 teaspoon)

โ–ข1ย pinchย sea salt or kosher salt

Slow Cooker Instructions:

1. In the bowl of your slow cooker, combine the apples, apple cider, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, stirring halfway through cooking.
2. Remove the cinnamon stick and then transfer the apples to a blender and puree until smooth. Return to the crockpot and cook, uncovered on high for 1-2 hours or until slightly thickened. Taste and adjust sweetness level to your liking by adding more maple. Cool and store in glass jars in the fridge for up to 1 month.ย

Whipped Pumpkin Butter

โ–ข6 tablespoons salted butter

โ–ข1/3 cup pumpkin butter

โ–ข1 teaspoon vanilla

โ–ขto make it sweeter, add 1-2 tablespoons maple.

Whip all the ingredients together.

Vanilla Sugared Rosemary

โ–ข 1 cup granulated sugar

โ–ข 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean seeds

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.ย Combine 1 cup granulated sugar with 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean seeds.

2. Gently run rosemary sprigs under a little water to dampen and place on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle the rosemary with vanilla sugar on all sides, making sure the rosemary is thoroughly coated in sugar. Allow to dry on the baking sheet for 1 hour. The rosemary can be made 1 day in advance and stored at room temperature.
