My new go-to weeknight dinner – Easy Chipotle Salmon Burgers. Smoky, slightly spicy, chipotle-seasoned salmon burgers. Pan-fried until crispy with melty Havarti cheese. Then sandwiched between toasted brioche buns with creamy, spicy-sweet chipotle mayo. These colorful and fresh salmon burgers are simple to make and full of so much flavor. Great for spring and summer, plus so delicious!

Well, these are different! I never make burgers, but something inside me really wanted to make THIS burger. Something chipotle salmon was the original idea. And then a burger just sounded so fun for the spring and summer months.

I decided a burger could be a great recipe, so I nervously tested the recipe, and you all? These burgers are something special. So special that my dad mentioned this might be his favorite dinner of all.

That is saying A LOT. I don’t love the photos, but I LOVE this recipe.

Now, a few notes. This is a salmon burger and the burger should be pan-fried, not grilled. I think if they were grilled, they could fall apart.

For the actual salmon, I used canned. This is my go-to brand for canned salmon and tuna, we love it. Having canned salmon on hand makes for some of the easiest recipes. Plus it’s delicious and incredibly healthy too.

Now, details

This recipe is so simple, so we gotta love that.

Grab your cooked salmon and mix it with Panko bread crumbs, eggs, chipotle in adobo sauce, tamari for a nice saltiness, honey to balance the spice level, garlic, and chili powder.

Make 3 or 4 burgers, I like to do 4 smaller burgers. Then, pan-fry each in a skillet with oil. I use either use avocado oil or olive oil.

Next up, the cheese! Yes, cheese and seafood. It does work. Add a slice of Havarti cheese to each burger and let it melt over the crispy patties.

So yummy!

Mix up the mayo, chipotle in adobo, honey, mayo, and sea salt. Then, layer your toasted brioche buns with mayo, the cheesy spicy burgers, and a handful of lettuce, plus avocado.

Serve with extra mayo, of course. Totally delicious and this will be great for the warmer spring and summer days ahead!

My husband and I thought these salmon burgers were better than anything you might find in a restaurant–SO GOOD and so many layers of flavor, plus it’s quick to make. I had some cilantro ranch left from another recipe so we tried that on one side and the chipotle mayo on the other–both were delicious! I didn’t have any problem with the burgers falling apart, and I probably used a bit more salmon than the recipe called for.
Honestly, all of your recipes we’ve tried have been fantastic–they are so good it makes it hard to go out to a restaurant anymore! I have all HBH cookbooks and love the on-line recipes (great index–thanks!) as well. I love the layers of flavors you incorporate into your recipes. The sauces are so worth the bit of extra effort. I also love that you use a lot of coconut milk since I’m lactose intolerant. Thank you, Tieghan, so so much! Food is a big part of our lives, and your recipes have been life changing, and I own a ton a cookbooks. Keep up the good work!

Oh dear. As I stirred this I thought about adding an extra egg. (you know, one of those oh, so expensive eggs that have a lot to do with Bird Flu and the price of grain and nothing to do with Joe.) I didn’t because I didn’t want it to resemble Chipotle Egg Foo Yung. I shouldn’t have worried since they fell apart instantly. They’re tasty anyway although I’ll probably add a bit more mayo to the sauce since it’s pretty spicy. I used canned chipotle since didn’t have Chipotle adobo. I didn’t have cilantro or fresh dill, so I used a scant tablespoon of dried dill and a finely chopped bell pepper to make up the volume. I don’t use garlic powder, so I use fresh minced garlic. None of that caused it to fall apart though.

    1. Hey Kate,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback! So sorry to hear the burgers fell apart. Did you use the 2 eggs that the recipe called for? I guess you could add another one next time or some additional breadcrumbs. I hope this helps! xT

  3. I’ve made these as written and they were delicious! Making again for someone who doesn’t like cilantro. Can I substitute parsley or just use dill?

    1. Hey Michele,
So glad to hear you enjoyed this recipe! Totally, parsley would be a great option in place of the cilantro:) I hope this helps! xT

I made these last night and put the mixture in the frig, for the next day, to help bind the patties. The only thing I did difference is add 1 T mayo I did add fresh cilantro & dill. I had fresh salmon and did sauté the fish with skins on as once cooked the skins comes off easy. I also under cook it a little.
SO GOOD!! I am a home chef now and this recipe is dinner party worthy, either on a salad (like I did) or on bun which looking forward to eating it that way another time.
