This Skillet Creamy Chicken and Parmesan Gnocchi is the perfect cold-weather dinner – quick, easy, warming, and delicious! Pan-seared seasoned chicken in a kale and white wine creamy sauce. Cooked together with mini potato gnocchi for a complete dinner that’s made in just one-pan on the stovetop. Truly one of those all-in-one dinners that everyone at the table will love. It’s delicious, especially when served with bread and a side salad. Such a cozy one-pot dinner with rich, comforting flavors.

Some recipes are just a touch more special than others, and I think this is one of those recipes. I knew the minute I had the idea that this gnocchi recipe had the potential to be a new family favorite, and I was not wrong!
I served this over the weekend, making two large skillets of chicken gnocchi. My family ate every last piece of chicken and scooped up every drip of creamy wine sauce. We loved this one. I think the sauce has the best taste!

Often, you’ll find me sharing skillet chicken and orzo recipes. In fact, one of my most popular recipes is my skillet sun-dried tomato chicken. It’s a dish I make on repeat, especially when I have my family in town.
I wanted to switch things up a little this past weekend and try something new. I don’t cook with gnocchi often, so I thought I’d use a yummy potato gnocchi in my sauce! This is amazing and comes together quickly. Plus, it’s all made in one skillet!

Step 1: season the chicken
Before you begin cooking, you should season and flour the chicken. Start with fresh thyme, salt, and pepper. Then, mix paprika and a pinch of cayenne pepper with a scoop of flour.

Grab your chicken. I recommend using smaller chicken thighs or chicken cutlets. Then toss them in the flour to coat them fully. The flour on the chicken creates a crispy coating, allowing the sauce to really stick to it.
Step 2: cook the bacon and sear the chicken
Find a large skillet; I always use cast iron. Cook the bacon until extra crispy. During the final minute of cooking, add fresh rosemary. Then, pull the bacon out of the pan and set aside.
Now add a sliver of butter and pan-sear the chicken until the crust is golden and the butter browns around the chicken. Take the chicken out of the skillet. Place on the same plate as the bacon.

Step 3: make the wine sauce
Add the remaining butter, shallots, and minced garlic to the same skillet. Get them cooking. Then, add a dry white wine and your favorite chicken broth. I love to use chicken bone broth for added protein, but you could also use vegetable broth.
Let the wine simmer for 5 minutes, then stir in the cream, kale, and potato gnocchi. I love using a mini potato gnocchi. Cook until the gnocchi float, about 4-5 minutes. Then, slide the chicken right on in and sprinkle over the parmesan cheese. Then take the skillet and place it in the oven to finish up the cooking.

When the cheese is all melted and the cream sauce is bubbling up around the chicken, you can pull the skillet out of the oven. Add the rosemary and bacon to the top, then finish with freshly cracked black pepper. It’s going to look so yummy!
I’ve served this a few times now. It’s quickly becoming a dinner I can count on that everyone will enjoy. So far, I’ve only made this with kale, but adding sun-dried tomatoes or baby spinach would be delicious too. Or use broccoli and maybe add some cheddar cheese. YUM!

Awesome inspiration and flavors! I played a little bit with ratios of broth/cream/etc, and had to substitute spinach for the kale. Family loved it!
Thank you so so much for giving the recipe a try! So glad you enjoyed it! xT
Do you use skinless chicken breast or skin on? Also can frozen gnocchi be used?
I usually use boneless skinless breasts! And yes you can use frozen gnocchi! xT
i made this last night and it was SOOO good! i even substituted several items for what works for me/what i had on hand (pancetta for bacon, olive oil for butter, spinach for kale, frozen cauliflower gnocchi from trader joes, and diff herbs in place of rosemary)
it still came out delicious!! thank you for sharing the framework for amazing recipes! cooking should be creative and fun, your recipes don’t have to be followed to a T to be amazing and i think a lot of people would benefit from understanding that.
Hey Allie1 thank you so much for trying out the recipe, love that you made it your own with what you had on hand! 🙂 xT
The first sentence in the recipe tells you to preheat the oven to 400 degrees. ???
Looks great. I’ll definitely be making it soon. But I may sub spinach for the kale. We belong to a CSG farm every summer and this year got tons of kale. The family is kaled out.
Spinach would be a great sub in this recipe! 🙂 xT
What the actual Hell was this????
this should be deleted it’s a very unhelpful review
Hello, a long time since I have not commented; anyway, I had Cream of Broccoli soup today as this image of Skillet Creamy Chicken and Parmesan Gnocchi made me think of this; nothing as fancy since mine soup only had broccoli and onions, paprika, some cream and bone broth as the cream made it very thick; it kept gurgling on the stove as it was being heated. I had to stir it constantly and when I had this, it cooled right away. It was good but I probably will not have this again. The rating is more for my creamy broccoli soup than for the skillet. Thank you for sharing!
I will have to leave the bacon out. Will it make a big difference?
Hey Judy,
Not a big deal at all, this will still be delicious! I hope you love the recipe:) xx
This looks amazing! Do you have a favorite gnocchi brand you use? I love gnocchi but haven’t found a pre-made version I love. Thank you for posting delicious recipes as always!!!

Do drain the bacon grease or cook with it?
Hi Carol,
I cook the chicken in it, unless you have a lot you can go ahead and drain some of that. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xT
can you freeze this
Hi Sydney,
Sure, you could go ahead and freeze this! Please let me know if you have any other questions:) xT
Your food photography is fantastic. I’ve made several of your recipes and they’ve all been yummy, but your photography is what really draws me in. Everything looks so “scrummy” as my daughter would say (scrumptious + yummy).
Thanks so for your kind message:) I hope you love this dish, let me know if you give it a try! xT
What temperature should the oven be to finish the dish?
Hi Kendra,
You will want the oven to be at 400F. I hope you love this recipe! xT
This looks right up my street! Definitely making this one soon. 🙂
Thanks Kelly-Jane! I hope you love this recipe! xT
This looks amazing ! But the recipe doesn’t tell you what temperature to heat the oven to for the chicken to be baked
Thanks Rachael!! Sorry, you will want to bake at 400F. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xx
