Cheeseburger Slider Skewers – the ultimate fun party bite! These mini cheeseburgers are layered on skewers with sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, then served with a drizzle (or dip!) of my favorite special sauce. They’re easy to make, fun to eat, and perfect for laid-back summer entertaining—from the 4th of July through football season. Guests will be obsessed with these adorable sliders!

How cute are these?! I’m so excited to start sharing some fun 4th of July recipes with you all, and these cheeseburger skewers are kicking things off! I made them for our 4th of July party spread, and they were such a hit—simple, tasty, and just really fun.

When I was thinking about what to serve this year, I knew burgers had to be on the menu. But instead of going the traditional route, I wanted something easy to eat, easy to prep, and totally crowd-friendly. For me, a good burger is all about quality meat, melty cheese, and a great sauce—nothing too fussy.

That’s how these skewers came to be. Mini cheeseburgers, stacked up with slider buns, cheese, and classic toppings, all threaded onto skewers for the cutest, most delicious little bite.

The best part? This recipe is more of an idea—a starting point you can build on. Use the base and make it your own! Add bacon, caramelized onions, jalapeños, or keep it simple like I do. Either way, your guests are guaranteed to love them.

Just don’t skimp on the cheese or the sauce—those are always everyone’s favorite part!

These are the details

Ingredients – for the sliders

  • ground beef, chicken, or turkey – I usually use ground beef
  • worcestershire sauce
  • onion powder/garlic powder/smoked paprika
  • slider bunes
  • sharp cheddar cheese slices
  • dill pickles
  • plum tomatoes
  • lettuce

Ingredients – for the house sauce

  • mayo
  • ketchup
  • dill pickles
  • worcestershire sauce
  • hot sauce
  • garlic

Special Tools

For these sliders, you’ll need a grill or grill pan and wooden or metal skewers.

Steps

Step 1: Make the Patties

Start with good-quality ground meat—beef, chicken, or turkey all work great, so use what you love. Season the meat with Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

Form into mini burger patties, about the size of a cookie. You’ll want them small enough to stack on a skewer but thick enough to stay juicy when grilled.

Step 2: Grill the Burgers

Grill the patties over medium heat. Once you flip them, immediately add a small slice of cheddar cheese to each one and let it melt as they finish cooking. Because they’re mini, they only need about 3–4 minutes per side.

Step 3: Make the House Sauce

For my go-to “house sauce,” mix together mayo, ketchup, chopped dill pickles, Worcestershire sauce, a splash of hot sauce, and a little grated garlic.

It’s creamy, tangy, and just the right amount of spicy—perfect for drizzling over the skewers or serving on the side for dipping.

Step 4: Build the Skewers

There’s no strict order here, but here’s how I like to layer them: start with the bottom bun, then a cheeseburger, followed by lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. Then repeat the stack—cheeseburger, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes—and finish with a top bun.

If you’re making a full batch of 12 skewers, stick to this layering pattern for consistency and a great presentation.

Finish each skewer with a drizzle of the house sauce (or serve it on the side), and don’t forget the ketchup too!

How to Serve and Keep Warm

You can easily prep the patties 1–2 days in advance. Just shape them, then store them raw in the fridge. When you’re ready to grill, take them out about an hour ahead of time so they come to room temperature before cooking—this helps them cook evenly and stay juicy.

Once the skewers are assembled, keep them warm by serving from a hot tray or warming plate. For casual backyard BBQs, a disposable buffet set works great. If you have access to an outlet, I highly recommend investing in an electric warming tray. I have one myself and pull it out every Thanksgiving and Christmas—it’s compact, easy to store, and so useful for keeping things hot without drying them out.

I’m excited to share the rest of our 4th of July menu tomorrow—so stay tuned! It’s festive, simple, and such a fun spread to pull together!

  1. I think that slider burgers for a party is a great idea. The seasonings and sauce sound delicious, but burgers with lettuce tomato and pickle and sauce tend to be a little messy and would fall apart as you try to eat them on the skewer or end up a mess when pushing them off the skewer onto your plate. Personally, I would make these and serve them on a festive platter with a with a Fourth of July themed pick through the top of each burger. Easier to pick up and eat, fun presentation!

    1. Hey Carol,
Thanks so much!! I love your idea for serving, thanks a lot for sharing:) Let me know if you make this recipe for the 4th. Happy Summer!

  2. You say “For casual backyard BBQs, a disposable buffet set works great.” Can you please clarify what a “disposable buffet set” is? Thanks.

  3. I would love to see a video of you eating one of these as it seems impossible to eat! They are cute for sure and look good in a photo but it’s obvious you didn’t think about how someone would eat this. Do take all the elements off the skewer and make a burger on a plate? Do you just bite it off the skewer?

    1. Hey Peter,
Thanks for sharing your comment. I think these work well to just slide off the skewer onto the plate to be eaten. You could also enjoy like a kebab. Let me know if you give this recipe a try!

  4. Hmmmm how to eat this? To be clear, you need to slide the meat and toppings OFF of the skewer in order to eat it, so these need a knife and fork it seems. Or I guess you can just re-assemble after you slide it off the skewer……

    1. Hi Rosie,
Yes, that is correct:) Or you could eat them like a kebab, totally up to you! I hope you love this recipe!

  5. Hi Tieghan, these do look very cute, but I was wondering how do you eat this? Do you eat these on the skewer or do you pull the whole thing off onto a plate and reassemble before eating? Eating on the skewer seems like it might be messy and cumbersome, but if you remove the skewers, it loses the unique factor. Thanks

    1. Hey Sophia,
My suggestion is to enjoy these like kebabs or to slide everything onto a plate with a fork and knife. You can leave it up to the guests! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    1. Hey Carly,
These are great to be eaten like a kebab or just slide everything onto a plate with a fork and knife. Totally up to you! xx

  6. My family loves caramelized onions on a burger, how would I put them on these skewers, I feel like they would just fall off? Also, how do you actually eat these? Do you take everything off the skewer and put back together on your plate?

    1. Hey Lacy,
I do agree with you, I think caramelized onions might be a bit tricky here, I would just make sure they are nicely squished between two other ingredients so they stay put. For eating, you can enjoy like a kebab or slide everything off onto a plate. Please let me know if you give this recipe a try!

  7. These are one of those foods that look good for photos but are impossible to actually eat. It would be much better and easier for people if you just served sliders on a platter with a cute toothpick in them. I would love to see how you actually eat these!

    1. Hi Patti,
Thanks so much for sharing your feedback! You totally could just make these to your liking:) I do think these are pretty easy to eat as kebabs or slide everything onto a plate. I hope this helps!

  8. Hi Tighan! This looks so fun – my husband loves sliders so I’m tempted to make these this weekend. This might be a silly question but how would you actually eat these without making a mess!? Do you suggest taking them off the skewer?? I am picturing biting into them like a kebab and it just seems like it would cause a lot of challenges…. let me know!

    1. Thanks so much, France!! Yes, I think these work great eating them like kebabs or you could remove everything and eat them on a plate. I hope this helps! Let me know if you give them a try!

    1. Hi Rachel,
You can eat from the stick like a kebab, or use a fork and push everything off onto a plate. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

  9. These look fun, but they would be very hard to actually eat…are you suppose to eat it off the skewer like corn? Or take each item off individually?

    1. Thanks, Rene! You can eat from the stick like a kebab, or use a fork and push everything off onto a plate. I hope this helps!

    1. Hi Katie,
You can eat from the stick like a kebab, or use a fork and push everything off onto a plate. Please let me know if you have any other questions! x

  10. How do you eat these? They look cute but eating them seems like a messy disaster. I think if I make I’d put two or three burgers on each skewer with a top and bottom bun so you can grab a whole burger off the skewer.

    1. Hi Lauren,
You can eat from the stick like a kebab, or use a fork and push everything off onto a plate. I hope this helps!
