5 Ingredient Beer Bread…and that includes the salt.

5 Ingredient Beer Bread | halfbakedharvest.com

I was never, ever planning on posting this bread, and not because it’s not amazingly delicious.

Because I promise you, this bread will rock your world. So much so that you may be making it once a week from here on out. It’s just that good and by far the easiest thing I make. Without a doubt.

The only reason I was not going to post this recipe is that it’s embarrassingly easy. It requires one bowl, five minutes of prep time (seriously, tops), and five ingredients that I honestly think most everyone always has on hand.

Flour, baking powder, honey, salt, and beer.

That’s it you guys. And as I already said, it’s honestly one of the best loaves of bread you’ll ever have.

Today is the day I’m giving in and showing you guys one of my most requested recipes.

I’m not lying, I make a lot of food (A LOT). Actually, I make so much food that typically we have two or three freshly baked desserts lying around on any given day. You’d think I would give them away, but I can’t. By the time I’m done shooting them, and by the time my family has gotten their hands on the treats, it looks like an animal got to them.

In all fairness, I do a number on them while photographing, but my family kind of destroys them. Some people pick off their favorite parts first. Some people go straight for the middle. And some people dump the containers upside down, shake em side to side and do a little dance well they’re at it.

My mom asked me if I had anything for her to take to this “thing” she had last night. I was like, seriously…sure if you want to take the bars and that cake…that looks like animals got to it. Yeah, she passed. So I quickly whipped her up a batch of this beer bread. So easy and such a crowd-pleaser!

This bread is practically a staple on our dinner table. I mean, we’re having it again tonight.

It’s good enough that I make it when we have people over, bring it with me if we ever actually go anywhere (which is never, but I would) and have even made it on Thanksgiving and Christmas. People love this bread, love, love, love it.

It actually still amazes me how much people love it and how incredibly easy it is. It’s just plain bizarre.

If you are scared of homemade bread, this is the bread to make. You can’t mess it up. Ok, well I’m sure if you added way too much baking powder, dumped in tablespoons of salt, or maybe accidentally grabbed the powdered sugar instead of the flour. Yeah, in that case, I think it would be bad.

But I don’t think that’s going to happen.

I like this bread paired best with homemade chili or gumbo. But it’s also great as a side with roasted chicken, grilled steak, or even leftover for breakfast. I am telling you, this is your new favorite bread. Trust me!

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease 9×5 loaf pan with butter.

  1. I’m making this bread now and it’s definitely not ready after 40 minutes. Why does the recipe in the Harvest book say 35-40 minutes and there is no salt besides salted butter? I’m confused, it’s the same bread. What is the right way to make it?

    1. Hi there,
You can follow this recipe as written:) Did you use a glass baking dish? That will usually take longer to bake than metal. I hope this helps! xT

I don’t know what happened, but at 45 min, the bread was really dark on the top and the butter area in the middle wasn’t done. I put it back in for 10 more minutes and it was starting to burn on the edges. There was still doughy areas. Once I got it out of the pan, the crust was too tough to eat I tore some of the actual bread off and the taste was quite sweet. Maybe I will try again at some point and split it between two pans. Very sad. But the chicken chili was great!

    1. Hi Pamela,
Thanks for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback, sorry to hear you had some issues. Did you use a glass pan or metal pan? Was there anything you may have adjusted? xx

Tieghan, this bread is unstable at room temperature! Disappeared within minutes of coming out of the oven, leaving only smears of butter on the bread board.

So simple and quick, so delicious. Thank you!

  4. Love this! But the pics show more than 8 pieces of butter…recipe vs pic, which is best? I have 2 loaves in over with the *more pats of butter*. They are swimming in butter. So we shall see.

    1. Hey Sharon,
8 pieces of butter is perfect. I hope you love this recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xT

WOW! I was not be prepared for the flavour bomb that this ‘simple’ bread has!

I absolutely love the sweet-salty profile this has and in my house, serving it still slightly warm is the way to go – no extra butter needed for me.

I used table salt (fine) as I took the recipe from one of your cook books and it did not indicate kosher salt; and I would not change a thing! A very lucky happenstance!

Budweiser beer and Canadian organic clover/alfalfa honey (Alberta Peace River) contributed to this very tasty treat!

The texture is dense and spongy in such a good way . . . I am definitely mad about this recipe!

Thank you Tieghan . . . just fabulous!

    1. Hey Alex,
Awesome!! So glad to hear that this recipe was a winner, thanks for making it:) Thanks for sharing what worked well for you! xT

I made this twice now. So easy and delicious. Definitely different taste depending on the beer used. I love that this recipe doesn’t call for yeast, as it takes longer. You can make and bake in an hour. Thank you!

    1. Hey JoAnn,
Love to hear this! Thanks so much for trying this recipe and your feedback! Happy Tuesday:)

This is so tasty. I made it for the first time this morning and will definitely make it again – perhaps with cheddar as I love a savory bread. Has anyone tried doing that yet? I wasn’t sure why the additional baking sheet was required, so the bottom turned out a bit chewier than intended. Now I know why! Overall, this recipe is really, really lovely – full of flavour, fluffy, indulgent and super easy.

    1. Hey Rachel,
Happy Sunday! Love to hear that this recipe turned out well for you, thanks so much for trying it and your comment! I bet the cheddar would work well for you! Xx

I had a few problems… I will try this again for sure, but you didn’t say how long it cooled in the pan before taking it out or if you just cut it in the pan and serve from there (I doubted that). In any event I let it cool for 10 minutes and it wouldn’t budge out of the pan. I greased it generously. Not sure what I did wrong, but it came out with a bit stuck to the pan. I flipped it over so no one will know. The pieces that were stuck were delicious though!!! Maybe you can explain the end part to me. I am not an experienced baker to say the least! Thanks for any advice you can lend.

    1. Hi Debbie,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback! Sorry to hear you had some issues. Did you use a metal or glass pan? I recommend a metal pan for this recipe. I would let it cool for about 30 minutes next time. I hope this helps! xT

I used a metal pan, and I am not sure what else I messed up the first time, but this bread came out PERFECT!!! It smells so good, it’s all I can to not jump in and eat it. I will be making this again. Looking back, I may have melted the butter the first time??? Why I would do this is beyond me. Thank you for a simple, delicious bread recipe. I worked until 11:30 PM today, and got home and whipped it together!!! I will be making it again next week. 🙂

        1. Hey Debbie,
Fantastic! So glad to hear that this bread turned out nicely for you, I appreciate you making it! xT

Hello Teighan, I loved this bread recipe. My first time trying it with your chilli recipe. I used my Instant Pot this time with the slow cooker feature. It was so easy to make and quick. I have company coming this summer and will definatley make it again. What else can I pair this bread with besides Chilli . A summer food recipe . I took pictures but don’t know how to send them to you. PS the Chilli was amazing.

  12. I served this for my annual St. Patrick’s dinner and it was a huge hit. My friends want me to make it every year now. I used a bottle of Guinness and it was the perfect “Irish” bread.
Thank you for this wonderful recipe.

    1. Hey Marian,
