The 2025 Christmas Cookie Box is finally here! And just like every year, Iโm sharing all my best tips and tricks to help you create the perfect holiday cookie box, just in time for Christmas. This yearโs box is filled with my family and friendsโ favorite Christmas cookies, bars, and homemade candies. Iโm mixing in some new favorites (my chocolate crinkle cookies!) along with the classics we know, love, and bake every single season. Yes โ the Fat Santa Cookies are back again!

This year, I wanted to create the ultimate โdo-it-in-one-dayโ cookie box. Every December, I start out with big plans to make an over-the-top boxโฆ but then the month flies by, and before I know it, itโs almost too late.
So this year, I decided to be realistic and created Santaโs Easy Cookie Box. Itโs filled with my best easy (but still incredibly delicious) cookies. I chose a small handful of recipes and managed to get all of the baking and decorating done in one day โ which honestly felt like a win.
Each yearโs cookie box is a little different. I love sharing new inspiration and adding in tips Iโve learned along the way. Itโs so fun to look back at older boxes and see how each one has evolved. Iโve said this before, but the very first cookie box I created back in 2017 will always feel extra special to me โ itโs the box that started it all.
I took inspiration from that original box this year. It was filled with my most delicious, go-to recipes and came together quickly, without overthinking or overdoing it. At the time, I had no idea it would become an annual tradition. Now, itโs my favorite post of the entire year.
All of the details for the 2025 cookie box are below, along with my best tips and tricks for creating your own holiday cookie box.

If you want to take a look back at where it all began, here are our 2017,ย 2018,ย 2019,ย 2020,ย 2021,ย 2022, 2023, and 2024 boxes. I love each one for different reasons โ every box feels special in its own way. I usually create a theme for each box, and this yearโs is all about ease, tradition, and really good cookies!

How to Choose Your Cookies
When choosing cookies for your box, focus on cookies, bars, and candies that hold up well during packing and shipping. I also like to include treats in different shapes and sizes โ a little variety goes a long way and is much more fun than a box full of only round cookies.
As for how many cookies to include, it really depends on how much time youโve set aside for baking. I usually make anywhere from four to ten different cookies, then divide them between boxes. This year, I baked six different treats, plus chocolate caramel pretzels and white chocolate peppermint pretzels (no recipes for those).
For an easier, more manageable box, I recommend choosing four to six of your favorite cookies. Thereโs no need to overdo it.
If youโre planning to ship your cookie boxes, stick with sturdier cookies and candies to make sure everything arrives safely โ and still looks beautiful.

The Steps
Step 1: Get a Sturdy Box
The box you use to package your cookies is incredibly important โ especially if youโre shipping them. Youโll want something sturdy enough to handle travel without crushing the cookies inside.
I love using a heavy-duty cardboard box, similar to a hatbox. From there, I add cardboard dividers to keep each cookie separate. You can buy ornament dividers or easily make your own using cardboard from old boxes.
If youโre gifting locally and not shipping, a wooden box works beautifully and makes the gift feel extra special.
If youโre looking to order a box, I found so many cute options. I love these Christmas tins and these Christmas nesting boxes. Thisย big red box is great (and a good price).ย These cookie boxes are nice, so are these, and this set is cute too. Thereโs also this box with adorable Christmas designs (and itโs on sale!). If youโre looking for something simpler, these are really nice as well, just a bit smaller. Oh, and I almost forgot these cute boxesย too!!
Any of these boxes are the perfect size for gifting and will comfortably fit four to six different cookies. Theyโre great for dropping off to neighbors or gifting to family and friends who are in town.
If you plan to ship your cookie box, I recommend placing your cookie box inside a sturdier outer box. Be sure to use bubble wrap or packing paper to keep everything secure. This will help ensure your cookies donโt get banged around during shipping and arrive looking just as good as when they left your kitchen.
Another alternative is to use cookie tins. I love theseย festive square tinsย or these moreย classic round tins.
Or, if you want to ship just one kind of cookie, give thisย cookie box a try. It would be perfect for a batch ofย Chocolate Oatmeal Lace Cookies.
For pretty ribbon, I love this ribbon, and this glitter ribbon is cute too. And this is certainly my favorite velvet ribbon and satin. Itโs great for any kind of gift wrapping!
I love searching throughย Anthropologie,ย Terrain, andย Target for good ribbons and other fun cookie box items.
Tip:ย Placeย bubble wrapย at the bottom of your box first. Next, line the entire box with a very large piece of plastic wrapโuse multiple layers if needed. Be sure the plastic wrap is large enough to fold over and fully cover the cookies once the box is filled.
This extra step helps keep the cookies secure and fresh, especially if youโre gifting or shipping them.

Step 2: gather cute packaging and ribbon
I try to find festive plastic wrapping, food-safe tissue paper, and/or ribbon to wrap around my cookies. This gives your box that extra special touch.
Tip:ย I always wrapย the cookies I want to keep extra fresh inย holiday Ziploc storage bags,ย then add them to the box. If you wantย something a little cuter than storage bags or plastic wrap, tryย cellophane bags sealed with ribbon. Or useย small holiday cookie tins or boxesย that will fit inside your box.

Step 3: When to Bake Your Cookies
I like to bake and decorate my cookies in the morning, then let everything cool and set throughout the day. Later in the afternoon or evening, I package everything up so the boxes are ready to ship the next morning.
Most importantly, have fun and make a day of it. Bake with your girlfriends, kids, siblings โ anyone who loves to bake, snack, and listen to Christmas music. Itโs one of my favorite ways to get into the holiday spirit.
Step 4: package everything up
Packing up your cookie boxes is probably one of the trickiest steps of the whole process. You want to make sure all the time you spent baking doesnโt go to waste.
First, a quick note โ the photos here are a bit misleading. Theyโre styled to show off the cookies, but they donโt represent how I would actually ship a box. Below are my best tips for safely packaging and shipping your cookie boxes.
- Start by wrapping any fragile cookies in plastic wrap or plastic storage bags.
- Be sure to pack the heaviest cookies on the bottom and the lightest cookies on top.
- Arrange a layer of shredded paper, bubble wrap, or tissue paper between each new layer of cookies.
- Pack your cookies snugly in your box to keep them from moving during shipping.
- For the final layer of your box, I like to use shredded paper, bubble wrap, or tissue paper. This will further help the cookies to stay snug and in their place.
- Pack the box inside a large cardboard box with about two inches of space all around it. Fill in the empty space with bubble wrap. This provides just another layer of protection for your cookies.
- Seal the box well with packaging tape and then write FRAGILE all over it.

Step 5: Ship Your Box
I ship my cookie boxes using UPS or FedEx, and Iโve found both to be very reliable. I recommend shipping via two-day air so the cookies arrive as quickly and fresh as possible. My biggest tip? If you can, avoid the post office โ in my experience, that doesnโt usually end well.
What are you baking up this holiday season? I love seeing your creations, so please share your HBH recipes.
And like every year, I am so excited to see everyoneโs cookie boxes soon!
Lastly, if you make any of these cookies from the 2025 Christmas Cookie Box, be sure to leave a comment and/or rate the recipe. I truly love hearing from you and always do my best to respond to each and every comment. And of course, if you do make this recipe, donโt forget to tag me on Instagram โ looking through your photos is my favorite part.

Most of us have day jobs and families, if we donโt have a full day to devote to making cookies, how many hours does it take to make all those different types of cookies?
Additionally, would you ever consider mailing a few of your cookie boxes to a few people in your community? It would be so fun to get something you yourself made!
Hey Rita!!
I recommend making 1 cookie recipe a day/night, then immediately freeze the cookies. When you are ready to share your boxes, package the frozen cookies up! The cookies will thaw in just a few hours and stay fresh this way!
I would LOVE to ship my boxes to everyone! We need to look into sharing them somehow. Itโs just tricky!
Merry Christmas!!
