The 2024 Christmas Cookie Box is finally here! And just like every year, I’m sharing my best tips and tricks to help you create the perfect cookie box just in time for the holidays. My 2024 box is filled with my family’s favorite Christmas cookies, bars, and homemade candies. The year’s box is a mix of new cookies and candies that are soon-to-be favorites, along with the old cookies we know we love and bake every season.

There are the classics, like monster cookies, snickerdoodles, and sugar cookies. Then we’ve got salty-sweet peanut butter blondies and the yummiest hot chocolate cookies. And then, there are my favorite cookies in the box, the gingerbread latte cookies. We included a lot this year…because you can never have too many Christmas cookies!
Yes, we might be a little late, but the cookie box is finally here! It’s one of my favorite HBH traditions. This will be the 8th box I’ve shared with you all, and it seems that every year, the box gets bigger and bigger.
If you want to take a look back from the beginning, here are our 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 boxes. I love each box for different reasons, and each one feels so special! I usually have a theme for my boxes.
This year, simple, sweet, and delicious was all I wanted. And the theme, “The Santa Clause” Box. One of my favorite cookies I’ve ever shared was The Santa Clause Cookies. I recreated those cookies along with my Holly Jolly Santa Cookies thus my decision to call the box “The Santa Clause Box”. It turned out so cute!
Each year’s box is slightly different. My hope is these boxes provide new inspiration! I love being able to look back at older boxes and see how my style has changed! Honestly, the first box I ever created back in 2017 will always feel special to me. It’s the box that started it all! I put that box together so quickly, not thinking it would grow into a recurring tradition. And now here we are!
With the busy schedule I’ve had this month and all of the travel, I wasn’t sure I was going to get this done in time for Christmas, but I spent the weekend baking cookies, and I couldn’t be more excited to share!
All of the details of the 2024 box are below! So look through the oldies but goodies, add in some new, soon-to-be favorites, and comb through my tips and tricks!

When choosing your cookies, be sure to pick cookies/desserts/candies that will hold up well in shipping. I like to choose cookies that are of different shapes and sizes. I find it’s nice to have a little variety in the box instead of a bunch of circle cookies.
As for how many cookies I include in my box? It depends on how much time I’ve allowed for creating my boxes. I usually bake anywhere from 2 to 8 different cookies and then divide them between boxes. This year, I made eight different cookies, including chocolate pretzels, and incorporated them all into one big box.
My box is large. Many of you will most likely be using smaller boxes. If that’s the case, go with four to six of your favorite cookies. And if you’re shipping your boxes, keep them no larger than the size of a small boot box and include 2-4 cookies/candies.

Steps
Step 1: get a sturdy box
The box you use to package your cookies is very important, especially if you’re shipping cookies overnight. You’ll want to choose a sturdy box that can handle shipping. I love using a heavy-duty cardboard box; think something like a nice hatbox. Then, I like to add cardboard ornament dividers. You can also make your own using cardboard from old Amazon packages, which is what I did for this year’s box. Dividers keep each cookie separate. If you have a wooden box and are just gifting it to someone close to home, that’s great too!
If you’re looking to order a box, I found these cute tins: Christmas box set, this one, these are great, love these, and this cute set too. There’s also this box with cute Christmas designs. Or if you’re looking for a simpler design, these are nice too, but a little smaller. Oh, and I almost forgot these cute boxes too!!
Ok, last one, these cookie boxes are pretty adorable. I think they would be best for smaller treats though!
Any of these boxes are the perfect size for gifting and will fit four to six different cookies. These boxes are great for dropping off to neighbors and gifting to family and friends in town. If you plan to ship your box, I recommend putting the cookie box inside a sturdier box. Be sure to use bubble wrap or packaging paper to secure the box. This will help ensure that none of your cookies get banged around during shipping.
Another alternative is to use cookie tins. I love these festive square tins or these more classic round tins.
Or, if you want to ship just one kind of cookie, give this cookie box a try. It would be perfect for a batch of Chocolate Oatmeal Lace Cookies.
For pretty ribbon, I love this ribbon, and this glitter ribbon is cute too. And this is certainly my favorite velvet ribbon and satin; it’s great for any kind of gift wrapping!
I love searching through Anthropologie, Terrain, and Target for good ribbons and other fun cookie box items.
Tip: Place bubble wrap at the bottom of your box. Then, line the box with a very large piece of plastic wrap (use multiple layers if needed). Be sure to use a piece large enough to wrap over the cookies when the box is full. This keeps the cookies safe and fresh.

Step 2: gather cute packaging and ribbon
I try to find festive plastic wrapping, food-safe tissue paper, and/or ribbon to wrap around my cookies. This gives your box that extra special touch.
Tip: I always wrap cookies that I want to stay extra fresh in holiday ziplock storage bags and then add them to the box. If you want to use something a little cuter than storage bags or plastic wrap, try using cellophane bags that can be sealed with ribbon. Or use small holiday cookie tins or boxes or even holiday food containers that will fit inside your box.
Step 3: when to bake your cookie
I like to bake and decorate my cookies in the morning. Then, I let them chill and package them up later that afternoon or at night. This way, they’re all ready to ship the next morning. Have fun and make a day of this with your girlfriends, kids, siblings, and really anyone who loves to bake and listen to Christmas music!

Step 4: package everything up
Packing up your boxes is probably one of the trickiest steps of sending out holiday cookie boxes. You’ll want to ensure that all the time you spent making cookies wasn’t wasted. First, you should know that these photos are a bit misleading. They do not represent how I would actually ship my box. My goal is to show off the cookies, but here are my best tips for actually packaging up the cookies and shipping out your boxes…

Step 5: ship your box
I ship via UPS or FedEx, and I’ve found them to be pretty reliable. Ship your cookies via two-day air because it’s important to get your cookies to their recipient as soon as possible. My biggest tip? If possible, avoid the post office. In my experience, that does not end well.
What are all of you baking up this holiday season? I love seeing your creations, so please share your HBH recipes!
And like every year, I am SO EXCITED to see everyone’s cookie boxes soon!
Lastly, if you make any of the cookies from our 2024 Christmas Cookie Box, be sure to leave a comment and/or give this recipe a rating! Above all, I love to hear from you guys and always do my best to respond to each and every comment. And, of course, if you do make this recipe, don’t forget to tag me on Instagram! Looking through the photos of recipes you all have made is my favorite!
Could I bake and freeze the cookies until ready to assemble the boxes? I have a 6 month old and it will be a bit hard to dedicate a whole day 😅
Any tips greatly appreciated!
Hey Izabela,
You bet! That will work nicely for you:)
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Hi Tieghan,
I just finished wrapping up the cookies to take with me to our family events. Oh my the gingerbread latte cookies were my favorite too. The jolly Santa’s are adorable! The blondies are outstanding. The easy slice and bakes are so flavorful and fun to decorate. The toffee worked out well too. I struggled with the molten hot chocolate cookies… they ended up very flat and kind nda ugly looking. I’m not sure what happened as I graze the dough and the cookies prior to baking as the instructions said. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏻♀️ still tasty! Thank you for all the tips on making a great cookie tray! I was super proud of how it turned out!
Hi Johanna!
Wow!! Thank you so much for making so many of the cookie recipes! I hope they are all enjoyed:) Merry Christmas! xT
Hello
The link to white chocolate pretzel cookies doesn’t work (there is no link)
Hi there,
There is no link, because I do not have a recipe for those:) I just did melted white chocolate with crushed candy canes. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xx
Baked the Vanilla Christmas Tree Lights cookies for my holiday cookie swap and they were a big hit! So tasty and used vanilla bean paste which really brought out the vanilla flavor.
Thanks, Tieghan and happy holidays to you and your family.
Yay! Love to hear this, Sue! Thank you so much for making the cookies and your comment:) Merry Christmas! xxT
I would love to buy a cookbook of all your Christmas cookie recipes.
Thanks so much, Teena:) I do think that would be such a fun cookbook to make! Merry Christmas! xT
Teena you’re a genius! I’d add, make it a cookbook with all the holiday recipes – apps, cocktails, etc. – and a section for holiday and party menus!
Tiegan, Teena and I will volunteer to be part of your content and marketing team. 😁
Also, this cookbook hasn’t been written and it just made the NYT bestseller list. Lol
Yes! What a fun cookbook to also get for all my friends as gifts. Please consider Tieghan ! And Merry Christmas! 🎄 I met you in Nashville !
Thanks so much, Teena!!
As much as I love your recipes, it seems like your holiday content is very last minute, after most people have their meals or treats already planned or made. Lots of us have holiday events starting right after Thanksgiving, so maybe the first week of December is a better time to share with your followers. I know the book tour has kept you busy, but Thanksgiving also seems to always be super late as well. Just a note to share some feedback, I’m definitely putting a few of these on my list for next year to try. Merry Christmas!
I was excited for this, but it feels like it was little bit like an afterthought. Understandable with your book tour and busy schedule. The cookie boxes for the last few years really all have looked the same. Santa cookies, tree cookies, some variation of a pretzel. Hoping you get some inspiration from your Christmas trip to Austria for next year’s box. Would love some fresh new ideas!
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Jackie! Happy Holidays! xx
afterthought? she handily linked her 8 cookies of this year. then like 20 more.
she told us how she sends her cookies in great detail.
she culled together lots of ideas for boxes, ribbons, bags…
if it’s so understandable…. why don’t you understand??
thanks, tieghan!
Agreed! This is a crazy busy time of year for everyone so we are so fortunate to receive ANY content from ANY creator!
Love looking through the cookie boxes every year, as well as incorporate one new recipe for both Thanksgiving and Christmas! Thanks for always sharing your fabulous recipes with us!
How do you make your white chocolate peppermint pretzels? Do you just cover pretzels with white chocolate and sprinkle with crushed candy canes or peppermints? Thank you!
Hey Liv,
You bet! Just white chocolate and crushed candy canes:) Please let me know if you have any other questions! xxT
This is literally her job, and there’s no reason she couldn’t have done this the first week of December – the post itself is basically a copy/paste of last year’s post, right down to all those tips. Is your job just grateful you’re doing any work at all this month? Mine sure isn’t.
The only new recipe she shared (marshmallow hot cocoa bars) will absolutely not travel well anyway. They didn’t even serve well!
I wish you sold these boxes of cookies..I’d surely buy one!
Aww, thanks so much, Mara:) Merry Christmas! xT
Wow! This is impressive! Need to bake the vanilla bean sugar cookie and the soft gingerbread latte! Thank you for posting this, so much time and effort! Merry Christmas!
Thanks so much, Bethany:) I hope you love the cookies! Happy Holidays! xT
